One Card Dungeon – Game Play
It’s time to bring out a game again, that I haven’t played in a while. One Card Dungeon, this is a little dungeon crawler that, well, is on one card. Is this a game that holds up over time and coming back to, or is there too little going on in the game. I dive in to see how I survive the dungeon. The Hit and Miss of One Card Dungeon
So, I want to talk about how this game is a bit of a mixed bag. I think that there are some very fun elements to the game. I think that there are some misses to the game. Mainly, I think that the dynamic choices of the game are just lacking compared to what they could and probably should be.
When you get into the dungeon you feel like you’re under powered. You need to be smart about your movement and keep away from the enemies. Then you start to level up and in the middle of the game it can kind of be easy. And then at the end of the game, you need to decide when to heal up and when to go into a fight with better stats than before. I honestly think that was a mistake I made in the last two rounds or so of what stats I leveled up.
That element of the game is a lot of fun. I like trying to figure out which stat I want to increase. And I think there are a variety of stats you could play around with. And a number of different strategies that could work.
On the flip side, it’s not that interesting when I just stand there and hit the bad guy. Or really, when I stand there and don’t hit them, because I can’t kill them. So I don’t run away, I just use my one good die result as defense and repeat. Now, you can go really fast with that, but it doesn’t make for interesting game play. It’s just doing the same thing over and over again until you get the result you want. And sometimes you run away.
This game needs one more interesting element and I think it could be really fun. Instead, it’s just not that fast game with simple mechanisms that almost plays itself at times.
Upcoming Streams
I’ll be doing more of my Top 100 Games (of all time) 2023 Edition on next Wednesday and Wednesdays for a little bit. That is always going to be at 8 PM Central. Next week it’s going to be 60 through 51 and we’re getting close to the half way point which always seems like it’s faster than I expect.
And then I also stream on Mondays at 9 PM Central time. That is going to be for smaller solo games. It might be another solo game that I’ve played. There is also a shot it’ll be opening up some interesting TCG packs, ones that I don’t care for about the game but I do like with themes. So join and see what it’ll be. Most of the time decided that day.
But the best way, if you want to know when I go live or a new video goes up (it’s basically always live), please consider subscribing. You can do that here. And click that notification bell on the channel and you’ll always know when I go live.
