So, officially have a plan as to when I’m going to play The Isofarian Guard. With two days off next week at the start, I’m going to learn it then. Instead of doing a game today, I was a bit slow as was my kid in letting me get ready to stream, I played Slay the Spire.

Slay the Spire or Other Games to Stream

Thus far my plan has been to only stream Slay the Spire. In a lot of ways Slay the Spire is built for streaming. A run takes about an hour. You saw that I moved through things quickly this time, I got two runs in, with one of them being short. The other I made it to the end, and it was just over an hour. So that’s kind of the target length I’d want.

Now, I know I can pick games that you save during. You even save during Slay the Spire, if you want. I rarely want. So I own bigger games, Elden Ring and Forespoken, for example, which I can play and save. But it’s less of a complete stream and something where I would want to do so weekly.

Gloomhaven digital is another option. I play off and on with some friends. But with that one, it does have the issue of length. I could play it by myself two handed. It wouldn’t be too hard. But no matter how fast I am, or especially to start, it takes over an hour which is kind of the target that I shoot for.

Now, over an hour isn’t bad sometimes. My guess is The Isofarian Guard as a board game will take more than an hour the first time. But, that’s my target. So other games, as the channel grows, Jackbox games, people play along. Railroad Ink Challenge is another one, though, I’m as apt to just pick that one for streaming the board game.

Any good video games, easy to pick up, that I should consider streaming?

Upcoming Streams

So next Monday we wrap up My City Roll and Build. Join me for that at 8:30 PM over on Malts and Meeples YouTube channel. It’ll be interesting to see where I finish up and how high a score I can get. It’s one that I might bring along to work and play through a few more times this summer just an episode at a time.

And then Wednesday, I promise (promise not guaranteed) that I’ll play Isofarian Guard. I do plan on learning the rules and getting ISS Vanguard cleaned up and it setup. I know I have time, so it’s very likely. But there might always be a situation where that doesn’t happen. But I plan on it happening and I plan on finally starting Isofarian Guard.

The best way, if you want to know when I go live or a new video goes up (it’s basically always live), please consider subscribing. You can do that here. And click that notification bell on the channel and you’ll always know when I go live.

Slay the Spire Game 7 https://nerdologists.com/2023/02/slay-the-spire-game-7/ https://nerdologists.com/2023/02/slay-the-spire-game-7/#respond Tue, 14 Feb 2023 12:44:47 +0000 https://nerdologists.com/?p=7785 Why do I keep coming back to Slay the Spire? That is the question I ponder in the article after streaming another game play.

It was another night where I needed and easy stream. After a busy weekend with the Super Bowl, I didn’t have time to get ready to get a game to the table. Instead, it was time for some Slay the Spire. Plus, I didn’t want anything that ran too long. Of course, this didn’t run too long because of a mistake that I made, which, you’ll have to find out what it was.

The Game – Slay the Spire

Why does this game stick around for me? When I played this for the stream one of the first times it was because I needed something fast to play but also because the game itself is fun and it’s been one one that I’ve played for a long time. Then I’ve played it more because there was the board game version that is coming out. But that isn’t enough for it to stick around. I often have issues getting to video games a lot. What works with Slay the Spire?

I think it is, and I’ve noticed this with other games that I come back to, is that it’s a shorter game. A run, a good run, takes about an hour, maybe a little bit more. So I can sit down and play in a reasonable amount of time. If I want to, I can sit down and get in a run while my wife is getting our kid down for bed. Now, it might run longer than that, but he’s not the best always at going to bed on time.

And I find that I prefer games that are easier to pick-up and put down on a moments notice. Or maybe not on a moments notice, but that I can leave for a month before I come back, or two. And I don’t need to remember any particular story of the game. Slay the Spire is really great for that because of how fast the runs are. And yes, there might be some learning curve for an ideal deck build again, but it’s not hard to get up and going.

Upcoming Streams

So, it’ll be back to normal next week, and by that I mean an 8:30 PM Central time Monday stream. We might tackle a solo game or multiplayer game that I haven’t tried much. Sword Art Online: Fellowship of Swords. I played it a few years ago, and I want to see if it is as bad as I remember, or if there are some good things about it.

Plus this Wednesday, so tomorrow, the next month in Lands of Galzyr. Join me on the adventures of Bumir. See what troubles he gets into this time. And will he become a legend yet again, or is it all going to fall apart for him. Plus, what story is out there for him to explore.

Slay the Spire – Game 3 https://nerdologists.com/2022/11/slay-the-spire-game-3/ https://nerdologists.com/2022/11/slay-the-spire-game-3/#respond Thu, 03 Nov 2022 16:35:43 +0000 https://nerdologists.com/?p=7512 Join me on Malts and Meeples as I take the Defect out for a spin in Slay the Spire. And let's talk about the board game coming too.

I really did want to do Chronicles of Drunagor. But with coming down with a cold or some bug and Slay the Spire launching on Kickstarter, see my Back or Brick here, it was time to play the game again. And I’m glad I did, I haven’t for a little while and the game is just always so much fun.

Slay the Spire – The Defect

Let’s talk about the character that I played this last time. And keep in mind that these are not fully unlocked characters when you see how poorly it went. But I played The Defect, maybe my 2nd favorite character to play. The defect basically managed different slots for powers like lightning or ice or others which give them abilities.

Basically, at the end of the turn, each slot activates. If it’s lightning, it randomly hits a bad guy. If it’s ice, it gives you some shield. So you can build your turn around trying to set-up the right amount of defense so that you don’t over play cards, or the right amount of attack that someone can get finished off.

The other thing I really like about the Defect are their power cards. The Defect has more power cards than most other ones. And they can help charge up slots, activate them more, or a lot of different things. Draw additional cards and I’m forgetting because there are so many. So I like to build out my system where it’s a ton of powers and otherwise a pretty lean deck. All the while putting out more lightning so that even if I don’t attack I’m still dealing out a good amount of damage.

Upcoming Streams

So let’s tackle this again and hopefully next Wednesday I’ll be playing Chronicles of Drunagor. I think I know which characters I am playing, but because it’s delayed by a week, pick who you think I should play in the poll below.

And on Monday, after taking Halloween off, which was a good call with timing of everything, I am getting back to my Top 100 Games (of all time) 2022 Edition. And it is going to be 40 through 31. All the games on my list I really enjoy, but as I get closer and closer to the top the more excited I get to play them. So click that notification bell to know when I’m going live next.
