The post 10 Minute Marvel S3E1 – Ranking 2023 Marvel Projects first appeared on Nerdologists.]]>
Happy New Year, after a holiday break, we are back with more Marvel. Thank you to everyone who is listening. This week we have a few news pieces, including when to expect the new Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania trailer. And will things get shifted around when it comes to Marvel projects to avoid Marvel burnout? And then we finish off by ranking all the MCU projects that are supposed to be coming out in 2023.

Thanks for Listening to 10 Minute Marvel

I hope that you are enjoying the podcast. If you are, there are a few ways that I always talk about that you can support 10 Minute Marvel. Firstly, please consider sharing it with your friends. Word of mouth really is a great way to help more people find the podcast and personal recommendations are always great. As well as then subscribing or leaving a rating and review. Both of those make the podcast easier to find on the podcast services. You can find the podcast on iTunes, Google Podcast, Stitcher, and Spotify.

We also run a Patreon and that is another way you can help support. The Patreon, found here, goes to help improve the quality of the 10 Minute Marvel Podcast, pay for advertising and more. It also helps improve the Malts and Meeples YouTube Channel and Nerdologists.com website. Thank you for considering supporting us financially.

Comments or Questions

Let us know how you rank all of the 2023 Marvel projects? Which one are you most excited for, or which one seems like a miss to you? Plus, do you feel burnout from the number of Marvel shows and movies?

Plus, let us know more about Echo. If you made it through the list, you know it’s at the bottom for both of us. Why are we wrong about that? What is in Echo that we should be getting excited for. Bonus points if you can suggest a comic to read.

You can let us know all of those things down in the comment section below. Or tweet them to me @TheScando or by using #10MinMarvel.

Thank you again for listening, and I’ll see you next time.

Malts and Meeples – State of the Channel https://nerdologists.com/2022/03/malts-and-meeples-state-of-the-channel/ https://nerdologists.com/2022/03/malts-and-meeples-state-of-the-channel/#comments Thu, 03 Mar 2022 15:15:02 +0000 https://nerdologists.com/?p=6761 What is coming up on Malts and Meeples, and how do I want to grow it? I put it down in writing so that you can help make it happen.

The post Malts and Meeples – State of the Channel first appeared on Nerdologists.]]>
So, the time has come to make some plans for Malts and Meeples. You can see what I’ve been streaming lately over here. And I want to add more to the channel. Last year I was doing biweekly chats, and I might do those again. But I want to talk about some future plans for the channel.

Malts and Meeples Videos

Firstly, I want to start with the quality of my videos. They are solid, but not always where I want them to be, and that is something that I want to improve upon. Plus sometimes technology acts up and I miss it, see Sleeping Gods Part 5, I believe, for how that went wrong and the audio got messed up. That is somewhat on me. But this is going to be where I ask you to subscribe, give videos thumbs up, and consider the Patreon, which you can find here.

The reason I am making a push for this is that I’d like to do a few things, eventually, to improve my streaming quality. And Patreon plus growing the channel so I can do more previews or reviews of Kickstarter games coming up, means that I’ll be able to do that eventually. I’d like to be able to get a gaming table. That would make it easier for me to keep a campaign game set-up and keep getting it to the table for streaming. I would also like to improve the quality of my game camera, get something that is a bit better on the focus.

New Content

Next up, I want talk about the different types of new content I am considering doing. Because I do have some ideas for upcoming series. And I want to ask if people want me to do board game reviews in video format? I do written reviews, and those won’t go away. But should I do video reviews as well?

But while you ponder that question, let’s look at some series I’m considering doing:

Collection or Cull

This would be a series where I go through my collection and talk about if I am going to cull them – sell them – or keep them in my collection. Plus it’ll be a fun way to talk about the games that are in my collection. I know a number of channels do this sort of thing already, I generally like those videos if they aren’t about – “Look how much I’m getting rid of, I’m so awesome for it.”. But I think it’d be a smart thing to do to take stock of what I have, what might not be getting played, and what might be leaving. This would probably be my biweekly Monday chat.

Video Game Streaming

I want to keep these new ideas a bit more simple. Mainly, without a gaming table, it make it trickier and more work to set-up a board game every single time I want to stream. So I want to try some things like video games as well. And with Elden Ring just coming out, I am really tempted to pick it up and stream that. I also have the digital version of Gloomhaven I could stream. Or Slay the Spire and Inscryption. Though, Inscryption right now is less interesting. And Outer Wilds is another one that really seems intriguing to me. Let me know what you’d want to see streamed.

A little bit about each game:

 1. Elden Ring – This is an open world game kind of in the style of a Dark Souls, but way more open world than that. It’s new, looks really cool, but also does still have a few bugs. But if you want to see my hack and slash and die, this could be awesome. Plus the graphics are amazing.
 2. Gloomhaven Digital – Gloomhaven the board game but digital. I think it would be fun to go through, I believe you need to control four characters which is a downside. Plus it’s more board game coverage, which isn’t a bad thing.
 3. Slay the Spire – This is board game adjacent because there is a board game version coming eventually, maybe, hopefully, to crowdfunding. But it is a rogue-like deck building game. The nice thing is that a run isn’t that long.
 4. Outer Wilds – A space game where a sun explodes and the world resets every 22 minutes, I believe. This is going to be a game of exploring mysteries of why it’s happening and maybe figure out how to break out of the loop, I really don’t know.
 5. Other – let me know if there is one that you think would be interesting to watch? Maybe something more story and choice driven?

Digital Board Games

So, technically Gloomhaven Digital could fall into this category. But more likely I’d use this to preview upcoming games or more for games that are a one off. So stuff like my Rogue Angels play through on TTS. The idea would be that I want to cover more upcoming games so you know if they are right for you.

Recorded Game Plays

So, unlike most of this other content, this would be recorded. The upside to that is that it means I don’t need to set it up at a specific time. The downside is that they might be more sporadic. But if you liked the Aldarra game play, and that was a massive game, then maybe do some more recorded game plays. I could also do them when I just feel like playing a one off solo game and leave campaigns more for the Wednesday live stream.

Top Tens

Board game top ten lists are always fun. I would consider doing these just by myself as I have before. But I’d also like to start bringing in a few friends on them as well. Or reach out to some content creators to see if they’d want to collaborate. There are a lot of creators that do top tens, but I’m okay adding to that because I like doing them as well. You can see in my Top 100 videos how excited I get making them and talking about games.

Final Thoughts

Firstly, I want to thank everyone for watching. I really appreciate the people who join it live and check it out later. And I do want feedback on what works well, what maybe doesn’t and I could improve upon, things like that. Let me know what you want to see more of or less of. You can use the information in the bottom to let me know on Facebook, Twitter, or email.

And I really want to grow Malts and Meeples this year. But for those who prefer the written content, I will not be getting away from that. Nerdologists.com is going to still be a focus on what I do and something that I want to grow as well. But part of that is growing the brand as a whole and that means if Malts and Meeples does better, hopefully more people will find Nerdologists.com as well.

And help me pick my next board game to stream as well.

The post Malts and Meeples: Board Game Unboxing and Deadly Doodles first appeared on Nerdologists.]]>
Thanks everyone who has been checking out the videos over on the Malts and Meeples YouTube channel. Last night I streamed some more board game unboxings with the two expansions of Heroes of Land, Air, & Sea, Order and Chaos, and Pestilence. And thank you to everyone who joined for the live stream.

The Unboxing

Heroes of Land, Air, and Sea: Order and Chaos

This takes the base game from four players all the way up to six players if you want. It adds in four new races, Goblins, Undead, Lizard Folk, and Lionkin. One of the main reasons that I picked this up was that the base box has pretty standard races. Order and Chaos adds in some more interesting races. Goblins might be pretty standard fantasy, but as at least playable races, the rest are fairly unique.

Heroes of Land, Air, and Sea: Pestilence

The pestilence expansion is smaller, but it is more of the same as well. It only comes with two new races to play, the Merfolk and the Birdfolk, but they are pretty unique. The Birdfolk come with an island that floats above the board. And the Merfolk come with a transparent plastic sheet that you put on the board covering up an island to make it submerged.

The Game

Since the unboxing was shorter than the previous week, I pulled a game off of the shelf to play as well. Deadly Doodles is a roll and write game that I’ve talked about and reviewed before. It has a fast solo mode, so I decided it’d be fun to play through a couple of games of it on stream and talk about how the game is played. I did poorly my first game, but the second time was a decent score.

The Beer

So, finally, but not least importantly, is the beer. This streams beer was a Chocolate Imperial Stout from Arbeiter Brewing out of Minneapolis Minnesota. I talk some about the differences between a stout and a porter or really the lack of differences that truly define it. However, the Chocolate Imperial Stout, at 9.7% ABV, was really enjoyable and had a very bitter taste to it, like a very dark chocolate. I am a big dark chocolate fan, and I like very dark chocolate, so I enjoyed the beer quite well.

The post Malts and Meeples: 4 Pack Board Game Unboxing first appeared on Nerdologists.]]>
Let’s get this show on the road. Last night I did a Malts and Meeples Live Stream over on the Malts and Meeples YouTube channel. I had recently gotten in a number of new and new to me board games that I needed to get unboxed, and in the case of all of them, I need to get them sorted as well. But I wanted to share with you all the new fun that I picked up.

The Games

The games that got unboxed yesterday varied from new ones that I’d gotten via Kickstarter, ordered from the company, an Amazon purchase and from my FLGS, friendly local game store. So a wide variety of content for the stream.

From Amazon I purchased Adventure Land from Haba. This is a game about collection treasures, fighting monsters, and more. But it’s done in a very abstract way. You move your adventurers down and to the right, never back up or towards the left. That means that you need to figure out when to push forward to get that one treasure or when to hold back an adventurer to move later in the game.

Space Base

At my FLGS, I picked up Space Base from AEG. Some call it a Machi Koro killer, it is all about building that tableau of cards in front of you and them activating. This one seems to have more going on in it than Machi Koro did. I expect that it’ll be less of an introductory game to the genre of engine or tableau building.

Direct from the publisher, Breaking Games, I joined in on the hype for Dwellings of Eldervale. This is a massive worker placement, fighting, exploring game. I almost get a little bit of a Lords of Hellas vibe from how it does a little bit of everything, and I really like Lords of Hellas. It’s a big game, and I love the noise making monster bases.

Finally, from Kickstarter, but really from Roxley Games, we have Dice Throne Adventures. Dice Throne is one of my favorite games. I love the one on one, or king of the hill battling and dice chucking. This makes it cooperative as you explore portals and fight bosses.

Patreon Announcement

I talked about this yesterday, but on my stream I went through my Patreon again. In particular, I ran down all the different levels and why I am doing a Patreon. I’m going to be mentioning this from time to time and I’ll be talking about it briefly probably in every stream that it exists. But if you are enjoying my content and want to help support it getting bigger and better, Patreon, right now, is the only way to do that. Any money that I get through it will go into improving the website, the Malts and Meeples livestreams, and the 10 Minute Marvel podcast. Thank you so much for checking out the content and even considering the Patreon. I know a lot fights for people’s attention and money, and I hope that you enjoy what you are getting from the site, streams, and podcast.

Introducing Nerdologists Patreon https://nerdologists.com/2021/02/introducing-nerdologists-patreon/ https://nerdologists.com/2021/02/introducing-nerdologists-patreon/#comments Wed, 10 Feb 2021 14:46:15 +0000 https://nerdologists.com/?p=5331 I'm launching a Patreon, what will you get for helping support the website, YouTube channel and podcast?

The post Introducing Nerdologists Patreon first appeared on Nerdologists.]]>
This is part 1 of introducing the fact that I have a Patreon, part 2 is going to occur when I do some unboxings tonight, plan is around 8 PM central time for two games, Dwellings of Eldervale and Dice Throne Adventures, but I wanted to get this in writing as well and give you an idea of why I’m doing Patreon, and if you don’t know what Patreon is.

What is Patreon?

Patreon is a platform where you can support your favorite content creators as long as they have a Patreon account. Generally this means you get access to things early or other perks in exchange for that. It’s meant to be a way to help those creators make some money off of their product that they are putting out.

You pledge at a certain level per month, in my case it’s $3, $5, $10, or $50 per month. Patreon takes a cut of that before it gets sent over to the creator.

Why Do Patreon?

So this is going to be two parts, first will be why I’m setting up a Patreon and the second part will be why I hope you’ll consider supporting me on there.

Why I Set Up Patreon

I’m not sure if it’s been obvious, but hopefully you’ve noticed that there are zero adds on Nerdologists.com. Now, I’ll advertise my own stuff, 10 Minute Marvel and Malts and Meeples, but there are no banner ads, videos that just start playing trying to get you to buy anything. And that’s been intentional. I’m not sure how many ads I’d get, but with 150,000 page views a year, I could probably find some, but I haven’t wanted to. I, like all of you, don’t love browsing websites where I spend more time X-ing out of ads that pop up in front of me.

But with that, since I don’t have ads, that means that I’m not getting in any revenue from the site. I set up an affiliate link before for Amazon, and I might do that again as well, so that people can go through that link and I’ll get a little bit of the money if enough purchases are made. But even with that, it’s not that much money and I would be fighting for your purchases with a lot of other people as well. Patreon, I will be fighting as well, but if you enjoy my content, you can know that it’s going directly to me, not going somewhere else as well. So this isn’t a cash grab for me, I am not looking to get rich off of this, or anything like that, I will break down what I’m hoping to use the money for coming up.

Why Support Me On Patreon

Well, hopefully you’ll do it because you like my content, but beyond that there are a few other reasons to do it, and those are the different rewards you can get for pledging at the different levels. I’m going to go through the different things you can get and hopefully some of them sound interesting to you.

Nerdling

At the $3 Level you get bonus content and a shout out on the Nerdologists Patreon page on this site, the page is yet to be built. So what is bonus content. Well, every month I’ll throw out a theme or a few specific things, so maybe it’ll be deck builders, Isekai anime, horror movies, and Harry Dresden, you’ll get a chance to vote on the subject and then I’ll do a bonus article for Patrons only over on the Patreon page.

Nerd Squire

At the $5 level you get the two things at the $3 level, but also some bonus video content and a monthly coloring page. The coloring page will tie into what you pick for that month and Kristen, my wife, has volunteered to help with that to create the coloring pages. Those will be delivered as a downloadable PDF. As for the video content, it would be a few times a year basically an ask me anything probably with a play along for some board game, probably a roll and write game.

Nerd Royalty

$10 level will get you everything from $3 and $5, plus some bonus Dungeons and Dragons content that will come out yearly, think a fully developed one shot, or for this year it’ll be a mad lib style character creation aid for new players or people who just need a bit of push to get the creativity going. Plus you’ll get your shout out not only on the website but also on an ending screen for Malts and Meeples.

Nerd Emperor

Finally, we have a $50 level. It gets everything mentioned before, but also access to a monthly D&D one shot, and I could be convinced to try another system I already have, for yourself and the others at that level, or if no one else is at the level, yourself and two of your friends. At this level, I wanted to add in more interaction and a whole lot more. I honestly doubt people will go to this level, but I can dream and if you want to play some D&D with me, this might be a way to do it.

What Will I Do With the Money?

So of course, what are you giving money for. Am I just going to use this for pay bills and things like that, no. I want to use the money from Patreon for other things to help add more content to the channel. That might mean upgrading my sound equipment, getting someone to build custom logos for Malts and Meeples and 10 Minute Marvel, buying more board games to show off on Malts and Meeples or to do reviews on, that I might not get otherwise.

I do have some thoughts for goals for fun stuff to do with the money for the Patrons themselves. I have a goal for 100 Patrons, it’s a pipe dream, but if I hit it, I want to do a big board game giveaway to people who are members of the Patreon. And at 25 Patrons, I want to start doing more content that is driven by the Patrons over on Malts and Meeples.

Thank you for even considering my Patreon. I know that there are a lot of sources vying for people’s money. I even have trouble allocating much to Patreon and focus more on direct buying from game publishers when I can. Thank you all for reading this post, and I hope that some of you will consider helping support the website, YouTube channel and podcast.
