That's the main topic on this weeks 10 Minute Marvel.

The post 10 Minute Marvel S3E35: What Disney+ Shows Need Another Season? first appeared on Nerdologists.]]>
The question is a simple one. We’ve had a number of Disney+ shows to this point that are a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And not all of these Marvel Disney+ shows are created equally, and not all of them need another season. But there are talks, and we cover in the news, that some of those shows look to be getting new seasons. So which of the shows do we feel like could use another season, or ones that we want most?

Plus there is a lot of news. What If now seems to have a release time frame. And we know the titles of the What If Season 2 episodes. Plus Echo, Fantastic Four, and a whole lot more to cover in our Marvel news.

Thanks for Listening to 10 Minute Marvel

August Trailer Trash https://nerdologists.com/2021/08/august-trailer-trash/ https://nerdologists.com/2021/08/august-trailer-trash/#respond Tue, 17 Aug 2021 17:53:11 +0000 https://nerdologists.com/?p=6036 It's time to look at the Trailers that are coming out in the month of August. Join with me as I nerd out.

The post August Trailer Trash first appeared on Nerdologists.]]>
It’s a new series, that I’m working on throughout the month, we’re watchin movie, TV show, and whatever trailers catch my fancy and I’m doing one massive post on them. I’ll be updating this throughout the month, so it’s going to be on the news side panel be sure to check back on it, but we got to kick it off with some Star Wars Visions and it’s trailer.

August 24th

Spider-Man: No Way Home

Yes, it’s finally here. We get to see Spider-Man No Way Home. And this trailer looks crazy in a good way. As a lot of reviewers of these things who do breakdowns have pointed out, it looks like we might be getting Sinister Six set-up for this or at least something across the multiverse. This trailer has a lot going on in it, but mainly seems to be a Spiderverse set-up and borrow from the comics One More Day. In One More Day Aunt May is shot and dying, so Spider-Man goes to Strange to save her. He says no, so he makes a deal with Mephisto, unfortunately that undoes Peter and MJ’s marriage and causes everyone to forget him. It’s not a well love story, I thought it was okay, but definitely borrowing from that.

Nightbooks

Honestly, knew nothing about this before watching the trailer. And after watching the trailer, I have to say this looks odd. I’m not sure what I think about it, I’m not sure if it’s based on anything, though, I’m guessing it is. This looks like a true horror film but it also looks like kids on bikes sort of film. Looks like a bit of a confused mess, but we’ll see when reviews come out.

August 19th

The Eternals

Anything Marvel and I’m going to be interested. And I thought that the first trailer was good, but this one sells me on it more. It definitely gives you more plot for what is going on in the movie. And I think with The Eternals that was needed. It would be too easy to just rely on the Marvel name, and I think they do a good job of balancing it. Showing us some plot but not too much. Especially for characters that average Marvel fans don’t know. Even I only know some about them. But this looks really cool and I feel like there’ll be a good payoff, going forward, for this film.

August 17th

Star Wars Visions

So quick little breakdown of what this is. It’s an anime style anthology show with different anime studios creating Star Wars stories. It is coming out with the first episode on September 22nd.

This looks amazing and crazy all that the same time. It is truly anime not like My Neighbor Totoro, but like Cowboy Bebop, Gurren Lagann and more. The animation looks simply amazing throughout this whole thing and it seems like it is going to have sweet little episodes about family and pod racing to crazy lightsaber battles and high stakes. I don’t know if all the episodes will be amazing, but I am really excited to check this out.

Stranger Things Season 4

Yes, another show that I’m extremely excited for with a tiny bit of new footage, let’s talk about Stranger Things season 4. Stranger Things obviously hasn’t been around for too long and we don’t have a release date for it yet. It just says 2022. Note that all seasons of Stranger Things have been around different holidays, Christmas, Halloween, and the 4th of July. I hope and it’s been speculated that they put a 2022 date on it because it’s going to drop around New Years, fingers crossed.

I’m ready to hang out with these kids on bikes again, and I’ll be curious to see what they do with the experiments and taking Eleven back to where it first started. There is a garbage book that does some of the history of what happened, but I’d skip it, it’s a very poor ripoff. But I’d maybe checkout the book Firestarter by Stephen King to see where some inspiration might be drawn from if things go back in time a little bit. Plus when will Hopper come back?

Ghostbusters: Afterlife

So, I wasn’t extremely interested in the previous Ghostbusters reboot or twist. Nothing drew me into the story that they were telling. It seemed like Ghostbusters all over again, which the people we already knew but different people playing them. This, on the other hand, seems to be building upon the Ghostbusters lore, for better or worse. And I think there’s something about 80’s nostalgia now that just is seen best through the eyes of kids. I’m genuinely interested in this film. Will I see it in theaters, very unlikely, but do I want to watch it as a $5 rental, sure.

I don’t claim to like the best and scariest horror movies, but I do love some B-Horror films, and with that comes so many films from the 1980’s. What are some of the best 80’s Horror films, probably not the ones that I’m recommending, but the ones I’m talking about, they might be some of the most fun.

A Nightmare on Elm Street

Freddy Krueger is such an iconic bad guy, and if you wanted to see a young Johnny Depp before he just started playing Johnny Depp in various roles, this is a good chance. This one definitely is not a pure B-horror film, but it has some of those elements because of the time it was created and just how it’s aged. It still have a wonderfully terrifying slasher in it, and it hits on that peak slasher feel. Probably my favorite slasher franchise out there.

Hellraiser

I think what is so interesting to me about this one is the premise. This idea of people putting themselves through torture to feel basically, and this puzzle box and really Pinhead just make it an iconic horror film. The first one, especially does a good job of not just being about the world of the Cenobites but about the people who go there, eventually it becomes a bit more about the world and about the torture as you watch through the series, but overall quite enjoyable and interesting.

Friday the 13th

Another one that spawned a franchise, you think about the iconic character of Jason Voorhees, but he isn’t actually the villain in the first one. This is one that it’s been a while since I’ve watched it, but I need to go back and see it again. But it is one of the iconic horror films, and really spun out not only it’s on franchise but so many others that have that camp as the backdrop as well as a very good episode of Psych.

Re-Animator

This is a B-movie through and through based loosely off of Lovecraftian lore, and Frankenstien-esque monster, it is about a man who decides to bring someone back to life. Another series that it’s been a while since I’ve seen it, but I remember it fondly as some glorious horror fun that isn’t too horrific and falls more in the line of just an interesting idea and B-execution and a good time. The main character portrayal is amazing as well, Jeffrey Combs is great as Herbert West and in that B movie role.

Sleepaway Camp

I don’t know that I’d as highly recommend this one as some. When I talk about how Friday the 13th spawned some other films, this is one. I think that this one, as compared to others on the list, takes itself a bit more seriously. With that said, it was well done film with a twist at the end, which I don’t know if it was shocking, I kind of figured it out, but it was interesting, though fairly well lead up to.

The Evil Dead

Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell.

If you need more reason than that, this movie is just a classic B-Horror film, it blends in a lot of horror with comedy as well. As compared to other of Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell’s work together, this one is a whole lot more about the gore and horror than future installments. Still, The Evil Dead is one of the iconic 80’s horror films and worth checking out.

Gremlins

I feel like Gremlins is another amazing horror trope, where you get something that looks maybe a little bit cute, or at least not dangerous and then something happens and everything goes insane. Which of course is wonderfully fun, and as I’m looking at it, so many of these spawned franchises, whether or not any of the sequels were that great, but definitely checkout Gremlins for a weird spin on a creature feature.

They Live

Is this horror, kind of, but ultimately I would say that this is a wonderfully dystopian 80’s story with some horror elements, kind of in line with something like Soylent Green (which was from the 70’s so not on this list). They Live is just incredibly B as the try and pull in a popular wrestler to do some acting, Rowdy Roddy Piper, and while his performance isn’t horrible, this film is just all over the place and so much fun. It has several iconic scenes for something that critically can’t be called that good.

Now, there are a lot of great other horror films out there from the 80’s that are much more actual horror that I could talk about. These are just some of the weirder and what I would call iconic Halloween ones. While horror always gets associated with Halloween, these are the ones that people so often talk about. What are some of your favorite Halloween horror films, not the ones that are amazing horror but that blend that goofiness of Halloween together with the dark side of Halloween?

There was actually a good chunk of news this week. Chadwick Boseman and Marvel are fighting over how much he’ll get paid, Doctor Strange 2 has a new director, an idea for a Hulk film, and the return of a familiar face to the end of Agents of SHIELD, but probably not whom you’d expect.
