This week we start to dive deep into Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania. And we could have completely skipped news and still had more than enough to cover. But there are a number of news stories as well for this weeks 10 Minute Marvel. We have Patrick Stewart talking about coming back again. Changes to the Disney+ release schedule, and who characters might be in Secret Invasion. Plus more news. But we still spend the bulk of the time on Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania.

Plus, with tickets going on sale yesterday, the movie isn’t too far away. So we spend some time talking about what we want, and what a post credit scene for this film might be. And of course there is news as always ranging from board games and Marvel United Multiverse from CMON to Vision Quest speculation.

Top 10 Marvel Characters I Want In the MCU https://nerdologists.com/2022/10/top-10-marvel-characters-i-want-in-the-mcu/ https://nerdologists.com/2022/10/top-10-marvel-characters-i-want-in-the-mcu/#respond Mon, 03 Oct 2022 15:38:04 +0000 https://nerdologists.com/?p=7426 Which Marvel characters do I want to see show up in the MCU. It's a wide variety, but which ones make my list and how might they work?

The post Top 10 Marvel Characters I Want In the MCU first appeared on Nerdologists.]]>
We know that soon every character is going to be fair game for the MCU. Well, almost any, there are some legal things that keep Sony with Spider-Man and there is no way that Sony is letting Spider-Man and his rogue gallery go back to Marvel. But most of the rest of the characters are back in the fold after a couple of years ago now Marvel bought up 20th Century Fox getting back the Fantastic Four and the X-Men.

And with a massive multiversial event coming up with The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars at the end of Phase 6, it got me thinking, what characters do I really want to see in the MCU that we haven’t so far. I am going to skip characters who might be coming up soon that we know about. The Hood for example in Ironheart might have made the list. The Fantastic Four would be obvious choices but we know we’re getting them. So without much more writing, let’s get to the list.

Top 10 Marvel Characters I Want in the MCU

10 – Squirrel Girl

Almost didn’t make my list. Squirrel Girl is such a meme at this point that it feels odd to put her on there. But she is a fun character and one of those grounded characters that works well. I’d love to see her and some other ground level characters work together. Once Ms Marvel is done with Captain Marvel, team her up with Squirrel Girl and Spider-Man and make a NY street level movie out of it.

9 – Beta Ray Bill

A character who is already hinted at in the MCU is Beta Ray Bill, but no casting and as far as I know, no plans. Beta Ray Bill’s face, or something similar, was on the Grandmasters tower with Hulks face. I’m glad they didn’t try and squeeze him into Thor: Ragnarok plot. But eventually Chris Hemsworth will be done with Thor. And instead of killing him off or recasting him, why not have a horse faced alien take over?

8 – Beast

This list could have just been X-Men and mutants. We’re obviously waiting for them to come up, but one of my favorites that I wanted to talk about is Beast. Beast, I like him because he’s like Smart Hulk without the other personality. But unlike Smart Hulk where eventually there will be smashing, Beast really never wants to use his strength. So it’d feel like a character with different motivations and I think he’s key to forming an X-Men team.

7 – Magik

I’m not sure if New Mutants technically came out after Disney bought 20th Century Fox, it was in the works for so long, but I want Magik in the MCU. We’ve had hints of things like other realms and demonic realms, so bring in Magik. Someone who has the ability to go through realms because, well, she has a lot of story connections to there. Even learning her dark magic in Limbo. Plus her character with a giant sword that can slice through dimensions is great.

6 – Amadeus Cho

Amadeus Cho, a hulk, and a character that I wish would have shown up in She Hulk but I don’t think will. But it’d be another chance to introduce another Hulk into the MCU. And one who isn’t blasted with gamma radiation, but instead using his smarts comes up with nanotechnology that allows him to control the gamma radiation and when he changes. Yes, we already do have a lot of Hulks, and I think we end She Hulk with one more, but Amadeus Cho is different enough, I think to work.

5 – Ghost Rider

Ghost Rider I hope we see sooner rather than later. I really enjoy him as a character and even Nicholas Cage’s Ghost Rider was fun. This would again like Magik tie into a story line with Mephisto or some other demon. Since Ghost Rider gets his powers that way as well. I really don’t care which version we get, I’d just like to see him show up and work with Moon Knight or Blade.

4 – Brother Voodoo

Brother Voodoo was actually rumored at one point in time to be in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. He wasn’t and I’m okay with that. How do you bring him in, well, I want a Werewolf by Night, coming out so soon, style special with him. Give me in 2023 or 2024 a creepy Halloween special where Brother Voodoo is investigating something in the Louisiana Bayou, maybe even teamed up with a character higher on my list. It’d be a great vibe and he’s a character who takes the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme as well, which I think would be interesting to have Doctor Strange passed by again.

Doctor Doom - Marvel

3 – Doctor Doom

I thought about, much like with X-Men stuffing the list full of villains. There are a lot of good ones out there, but Doctor Doom is the one who made it onto the list and very high on the list. I suspect we’ll see him first of any of these characters. I think he might even show up as soon as Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but more like Fantastic Four. But Doom is such a great villain that I want him now.

I’ve talked on some a bit about how I’d bring them in, but I want Doom to already exist in the world. No origin story, but during the blip, he creates Latveria, the country he rules. He uses the political unrest to cut out a little country for himself. And when people come back, he greats them with open arms, but eventually we figure out that he is really a villain. Give me all that backstory before The Fantastic Four film, please.

2 – Rogue

Final two are X-Men and both of them could team up with Brother Voodoo for the Halloween special that I want to happen. Rogue is a great character mainly because she is very powerful. But with her power there is a massive drawback. There are rumors, unfounded, that she’ll be in The Marvels. There is a storyline where she drains Captain Marvel’s powers and leaves her in a coma, I doubt that they do that, though. But put her down south with my top character, put them on the run, and let them be somewhat shady good guys dealing with weird things, I’m cool with that.

1 – Gambit

My number one is Gambit. I just find his powers awesome. But to go along with that, I think he often has very interesting storylines. Gambit is a character who I wouldn’t mind seeing more of an origin for. Mainly because like an Ant-Man he goes from criminal to hero. But to get that full story and to get to see him as a criminal I think would be good. Ant-Man/Scott Lang, always seems like he was on the right side. What I like about Gambit is that he was on the wrong side and then comes over.

Plus, he’s a perfect character to provide a bit of levity to a Halloween special. Team him up with Brother Voodoo, Gambit is probably in over his head. But he’s the type of character who always tries to make it work even when the odds are against him.

Who Would Be On Your List?

Let me know who would make your list? If I had more of a connection to stuff like Jessica Jones or Luke Cage, I could see maybe having put them on the list. I like them as characters in the comics. But not enough and I need to watch the Defenders shows that they were in on Netflix. And there are some characters I’d like to see make more MCU debuts like Miles Morales, but he’s with Sony.

So this is my list, definitely could have come up with more. And I do think a number of them, will be coming in the next handful of years. But what that’ll look like, I’m not sure.

The post Top 10 – Marvel Heroes first appeared on Nerdologists.]]>
Yes, I am limiting myself again, I wanted to do my Top 10 Marvel heroes, I considered for a moment Superheroes, but I will come back and do DC at some point. I also considered adding in villains, but again, that’s another list, and why would I blend them all together when I can get a bunch of lists out of them. Look for some talk about this on 10 Minute Marvel as I’ll probably start doing deeper dives into some of these characters.

10 – Deadpool

Deadpool is basically the only straight up comedy act on the list. Yes, he is hyper violent as well at times but he lives in a completely absurd world of his own in a lot of ways. I was resistant to him for a while just because he had such a following and didn’t play a major part directly in the comics. But the stuff I’ve read of his generally is a good amount of fun and he works as a character who is comedy and doesn’t spend his time bumping up against the main characters but is just off in his own little world doing his thing. And then when he does interact with other characters, it’s good entertainment.

9 – Ant-Man

Now, do I prefer Pym or Lang as Ant-Man, probably Lang, but both are good. I think that they both provide an interesting feel for Ant-Man, but this will be more about Lang since he’s in the MCU as Ant-Man. I like the idea of a criminal turned super hero, because you get that blend of things that shouldn’t be done and still trying to be better than he was before. Also Paul Rudd just does a solid job in that role with comedy but also creating a character who has a bit of a heart. Lang and Ant-Man are a good blend of comedy and heart, which I think you’ll see further on the list.

8 – Scarlet Witch

Scarlet Witch could probably be a villain as well, but I think that she works well in either direction. As a hero she’s a terrifying power that you’re worried about won’t be able to control herself. On the flip side as a villain, she’s even more scary. I like a character who has just an insane level of power but you don’t know if they’ll be able to control it, and while some heroes, like the Hulk, can smash anything, Scarlet Witch is so much beyond that, if she makes a mistake, or loses control that can just alter the world, alter the past or present and completely change reality as you know it. Add in the fact that she’s not all that stable mentally, it creates an even crazier power set for her and more interesting stories as you wait for her to break.

7 – Magik

Now, admittedly she isn’t a character that I’ve read a ton of stuff focused directly on her, but I like her character in the X-Men comics that I’ve read. Her powers are interesting and she just has an edgier look to her than a lot of the other heroes. In fact, she’s sometimes a little bit shaky as to how actually good she is. But with that, she also has a complex backstory and a brother, Colossus who is also part of the X-Men. So that adds in an interesting dynamic to her character. Her power set with sorcery and teleportation are very interesting as well as she kind of has a larger breath to her powers than a lot of other characters.

6 – Doctor Strange

So with Strange, I actually was interested in him before the Doctor Strange film came out, that movie definitely made me more interested and brought about more comics because there hadn’t been many or any for a little bit. But his power set is just so interesting to me. I like the magic that he can do and just the breath of what it can cover. But I also like that so much of who he is, is tied into who he was and how he’s had his “come to Jesus” moment where he realized that his pride and his goals weren’t fulfilling his life and when it was all taken away from him he didn’t know who he was. There’s another character who is always trying to prove himself against his past, but he’ll show up later and it is interesting to see how they deal with their hubris in different ways.

5 – Rogue

Now, Rogue might be a surprising character, and some of it might be that she fairly often ties closely to another character higher on my list. But I also find her power and character interesting. She can absorb other peoples powers and basically neutralize them, but it comes at a cost. She absorbs and that means that she steals from them and she can’t control it, it doesn’t matter if she wants to or not, she will steal their powers and drain their life force. So how can she have a normal relationship with a human being and that’s a very common struggle with her. I think you’ll find that I like the characters who have those human struggles, both with previous ones I’ve mentioned and ones coming up. It just makes them feel more like they could be real people and real heroes.

4 – Thor

Now, let me preface this by saying, I’m 100% Norwegian, so I like Thor some for that reason. But that’s not just it. For Thor, I like the fact that you can get some more epic and mythological battles going on. It isn’t just Thor versus some supervillain, it can be Thor facing off against gods and comsic beings, and I like that you get a wider scope with him. Now, clearly he isn’t the only hero who has that, but I like him better than most. Now, the fact that he’s also displaced kind of from his world and having to deal with humans is interesting as well. I like a fish out of water, and I like a character who has flaws when dealing with that, and Thor definitely has flaws. He’s a good blend of big action, big moments and still be caring that works well.

3 – Iron Man

Now, I can thank the MCU for making me like Iron Man so much, and as much as I like Iron Man, so much of what I like about Iron Man is Tony Stark. He is a deeply flawed character who desperately wants to do the right thing and always ends up doing the right thing poorly. If he knew he was doing the wrong thing and did it anyways, or if he was doing the right thing and it always worked out, that’d be boring, but he fails so often. And not only does he fail at the big super hero things, Iron Man/Tony Stark fails at the small normal life things as well, relationships, drinking, drugs, and he’s just not a great member of society. But every time that he fails in his life, in saving the world, whatever it might be, he gets back up and tries again.

2 – Spider-Man

Now, I will say, I’m done for good with Uncle Ben dying, but I really like Spider-Man as a character. Apparently I like the characters that provide a bit of humor. Spider-Man does it in a really fun loving way, and I just like how wholesome and earnest his character is. I also really like him because of the 90’s cartoon and because of the cast of villains that he has. Spider-Man has some of the best villains to go up against, and they have done a solid job with them in the movies, and they always do a great job in the comics with them. I think that Spider-Man/Peter Parker works as well because he’s so relatable for kids and people in general reading comics. Issues with school and friendship and balancing of his life abound, and while Iron Man has relatable flaws as well, Spider-Mans are just a bit simpler and feel more like everyday life.

1 – Gambit

Now this mainly comes from watching the TV show in the 90’s and then carried into reading the comics in the mid 2000’s and early 2010’s. Gambit is just a fun character for me. I like him as a bit of a loner who doesn’t play well with others. But he has a good heart, he just doesn’t want other people to know it. There’s definitely a bit of a vibe that is similar to that of Wolverine, stand-off-ish and not a team player, but while a lot of people love Wolverine, I like it when Gambit does it better. He has an awkward kind of charm to him where things end up in his favor, after normally not starting out that way at all, and it just works for a comic book character.

So who are your favorite Marvel heroes? Do you have any overlap with me? There are so many characters that it’s just hard to pick 10 and really think about what makes some stand out over others.

The post MCU Movie Rankings first appeared on Nerdologists.]]>
First off, this is not what movies are critically the best. I think even that is subjective on some level, but there are some movies that are clearly critically better or more groundbreaking for the genre. This is how much I like the movies. Also, this is not how often I’d watch the movies. I’d watch the third movie on the list more than I’d watch the second one and probably the first one as well. Finally, I used the Marvel Sorter website to do these rankings. It’s a simple website that ranks the movies for you based off of you doing comparisons between two movies, until it has a list. For example, you get Avengers: Endgame and Captain Marvel as your first option, and you pick the one you like better. So you won’t get every movie compared to every other movie, because it’s smart enough to know when movies won’t flip flop. I’ve done this a number of times in the past month, gotten different results at times, but here are my results this time.

So let’s talk about this list. Starting at the top and going down.

  1. Avengers: Endgame – It’s hard to say that this movie isn’t the best one. it wraps everything up nicely and it’s just amazing action throughout. Clearly I’ve been thinking about it and l am going to see it again. Rarely does a movie feel like it hits all the right notes like Endgame does.
  2. Avengers: Infinity War – I like this movie for it’s shock value, I like it for Thanos as a villain, I like it for everything that it does. It also hits it out of the park, and we get to see the first of the team-up of Thor and the Guardians of the Galaxy which should be fun, hopefully, in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol III.
  3. Thor: Ragnorak – I can watch this movie whenever. It has a blend of humor and action and is the only Thor movie to use Immigrant Song from Led Zepplin. Chris Hemsworth just plays comedy so well.
  4. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol I – I think this one is so high because it showed that Marvel could do something that was primarily comedy. Yes, there is action in Guardians of the Galaxy, but really it’s more about the humor. They also were able to get heart into this one.
  5. Spider-Man: Homecoming – Peter Parker is one of my favorite, if not my favorite superhero. I grew up watching the early 90’s Spider-Man cartoon, so there’s nostalgia, and the original Spider-Man movies I liked, even kind of liked the mess that the third one was. But this is by far the best Spider-Man movie, and they really nail the feeling of Peter Parker in the MCU.
  6. The Avengers – Hard not to put the original team-up movie up high. The battle of New York is just great, and Loki makes such a good villain. We also get to see the good Hulk really show off in this movie. We also get to meet so many characters that are important as well, like Maria Hill, Hawkeye, and really get to know Black Widow for the first time.
  7. Iron Man – The original MCU movie. This movie just hit perfectly with Robert Downey Jr. playing a great Tony Stark. It was an origin story that started Marvel’s trend of creating really human and relatable characters as you see Tony from the start, at his weakest. The main villain might be underwhelming, but Robert Downey Jr. makes that not matter.
  8. Thor – Way higher than most people will have it, but I love Thor. I think that it actually does a good job being a Thor movie that feels like the comics as well. You get some team-up of Asgardians, and you get to see Thor out of place. Plus Loki is always a good thing. I don’t think Hemsworth had hit his stride with the character yet though.
  9. Ant-Man – Probably a lot higher than a lot of people have it. Again, I thought the villain was underwhelming, but the family comedy feel for this movie just works. Scott Lang, played by Paul Rudd, is just great, and you get good sight gags, and action that is done in an interesting way.
  10. Doctor Strange – This one is an interesting story, probably where we see the first drop off of movies that I really like to just like quite well. Benedict Cumberbatch does a good job as Strange and you get some interesting action throughout. It also didn’t have a big fight at the end against the final boss which was fun and interesting.
  11. Avengers: Age of Ultron – James Spader as Ultron works great. Getting to see Vision, Scarlet Witch, and Quicksilver is amazing, I love adding them in. This also really doubles down on the infinity stones. I also like it, because this movie is key to Tony Stark’s character arc and sets up Thor: Ragnorak by giving us some great Hulk and Black Widow scenes.
  12. Ant-Man and the Wasp – I really like Ghost, but I thought that overall this movie wasn’t quite as fun as the first Ant-Man. Michael Pena is amazing in this movie, as well as the first Ant-Man movie. I suspect I’ll like this movie more on a second viewing, only watched it once thus far.
  13. Iron Man 3 – Do they do the Mandarin wrong? Yes, in some ways. Mainly I say yes, because it could have been some other random bad guy, not someone as big as Mandarin, in terms of the comics. However, I think it works for the movie, and the end fight is great and exciting.
  14. Captain America: Winter Soldier – First Captain America movie on the list, and definitely the best one in my opinion. I really like the twist the SHIELD is Hydra, and I think it would be fun to see some sort of Secret War angle for Nick Fury to lead a covert SHIELD and be battle Hydra still behind the scenes. Also, we get to see Cap conflicted about Bucky and deal with that.
  15. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol II. – Probably another one that I need to see again, but it feel a bit flat for me. The biggest thing was Ego that part of the story just felt weird and off to me. I don’t know how they’d have been able to pull it off differently, but it felt like there should have been a better way.
  16. Black Panther – Probably a lot higher for a lot of people, but I have a major issue with this film. The writing for Black Panther, himself, was bad. It wasn’t acted very well and it just didn’t work. Then you have Michael B. Jordan stealing the show. The look and tone were great for a Black Panther movie, but when the main character and his love interest are both the most boring characters in the movie, it’s going to fall very flat.
  17. Captain America: The First Avengers – I’m not a huge fan of this movie. I think out of all of the origin story movies, it feels most like an origin story. However, Red Skull is a villain that I like, and I like that they’ve been able to kind of bring him back. Captain America just doesn’t have much character development as compared to say Iron Man.
  18. Captain Marvel – Probably another one that surprised a lot of people. I got one issue, and I talked about it in my spoiler review of Endgame, but Captain Marvel is too powerful for the MCU. She isn’t a character that you can use often because you have to have an Infinity Stone to slow her down I guess? Maybe they can save her character by nerfing her powers now that the infinity stones are destroyed and it would make sense? Also, Brie Larson, I like you as an actress, but you didn’t feel like a super hero in this movie.
  19. Captain America: Civil War – Aka. Captain America and Iron Man fight over Bucky. Sokovia Accords, what are those? This is about Bucky, with a side of Bucky, and a little bit more Bucky after that. That is why this movie falls so flat for me, while others like it. Sure there is a bit about the Accords in there, but when you really get down to it, Captain America spends more of his time fighting Iron Man because of Bucky than the Accords.
  20. Iron Man 2 – I don’t think this is a horrible movie, but it just falls flat. Whiplash as a villain isn’t all that compelling, but like the rest of the Iron Man movies, it is often more about Tony fighting himself than it is about Iron Man fighting a bad guy. Just wish the bad guy had been a bit more compelling.
  21. Thor: The Dark World – Chris Hemsworth did fine in this movie that really didn’t know where it wanted to go. However, Natalie Portman who had been okay in the first movie clearly is phoning it in on this one. I also don’t think they did a great job with the Dark Elves. Loki was entertaining, but not in it enough.
  22. The Incredible Hulk – Haven’t seen it. That will change this summer, but sorry Edward Norton, you don’t interest me as the Hulk. There are only two hulks, Lou Ferrigno and Mark Ruffalo.

Now, what do you think of this list? I’m sure that there are some, mainly Civil War that people will have much higher on there lists, but you’re wrong. Wait, this is a list of what I like, so you can put them where ever you want in your list and enjoy them. Let me know what your rankings are in the comments below.

Yes, we now have a spoiler review up.

I’m now going to write some text so that we don’t get a spoiler in the blurb.

Nailed it.

So Avengers: Endgame, let’s do a bit of a recap of what happens in this movie. After Infinity War, half of all living creatures in the universe are gone. In space with have Tony Stark and Nebula who aren’t going to make it back to Earth and are floating around in the Benatar. They are conveniently rescued by Captain Marvel who had been sent after them by the Avengers who were still on Earth. Well after Tony. They get back to Earth, find the planet that Thanos is on, and go find him, only to find that he’s destroyed the Infinity Stones with the Infinity Stones. Thor then destroys Thanos.

They go back to Earth and a lot of time passes, five years later. During that time Steve Rogers (Captain America), has started a support group for people and Black Widow is running things from the Avengers base trying to keep the world in some place of stability and find Hawkeye who has gone rogue, because his family died. Scott Lang (Ant-Man) get’s out of the quantum realm and comes up with a vague idea for time travel. Cap, Scott, and Black Widow go to Tony to get his help, but he turns them down, but they don’t realize he’s been working on time travel himself. Instead they get Professor Hulk to help them, and they get some time travel working, but Tony figures it out even more so, and he returns to the Avengers base, so they go back in time to get the time stones. A lot of problems happen in this time, the biggest two being Black Widow sacrifices herself for the Soul Stone, and Nebula is captured by Thanos and the old Nebula goes back with them.

They are able to get the Infinity Stones to work and bring back everyone, but at the same time Nebula brings through Thanos who ship from the past, and a large battle takes place. Thanos isn’t too worried, forgetting that if everyone is back, that means Doctor Strange can bring everyone from Wakanda and around the Universe in. A large battle ensues and Thanos gets the stones back and is about ready to wipe out the universe. But Stark steals the stones, and snap, and Thanos army is gone and Thanos is gone, just like he did to half the creatures, however, that is too much for Tony’s body and he dies as well.

Alright, that’s a very detailed recap, but it hits on a number of things, and some of them that I want to talk about.

First, I love the fact that they gave Nebula a big role to play. Karen Gillan is awesome from Doctor Who, Jumanji, and this, and to see her have a bigger role is great. I also like it because in the comics Nebula is the one who undoes everything that Thanos has done. In that case it’s that she kills her old self who is trying to get the stones for Thanos.

Let’s also get out of the way the one thing that I didn’t like about the film. That was Captain Marvel. Captain Marvel is unfortunately over powered for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She blows up Thanos ship without a scratch. She takes on Thanos while he has all Infinity Stones no problem. She literally has to be sent out to space to get her out of the movie because otherwise she’d be able to do everything too simply. I was hoping that they’d be able to improve upon her from the Captain Marvel movie, but instead they just sent her away instead of trying to undo the DC Movie influence that had been placed upon her character. It sucks because she could have been a cool character, and you can have her still be really powerful, but when she flies through and blows up a ship, have her come out of it looking rough. Have Thanos be able to do some damage to her, he was able to do damage to Hulk, but her able to hold her own. Those are simple ways to keep her power in balance than making her impervious to anything.

But let’s get back to plot stuff that I found interesting.

I’ll also say, I’m going to do an article tomorrow on the original Avengers and how I think they handled their characters from MCU phases one through three, and did we get a good ending for the ones who had their stories wrap up.

Then on Thursday I’m going to go through my Marvel movie rankings and explain why I like the ones I do as much as I do, and why I don’t like the some of them all that well.

Finally, on Friday, it’ll be speculation as to where we go from here.

Anyways, back to the plot. I thought that time travel while unsurprising was an interesting way to go. I also think that that they had the Ancient One explain it differently than Professor Hulk did. When her time stone was taken, that created a diverging timeline that she was going to go on. Hulk says that you can’t change the future, but aren’t a diverging timeline and changing the future basically the same thing? It’s time travel, I shouldn’t think about it so hard, that’s the issue with time travel. It is important to talk about though, because we have multiple diverging points from their actions in the past. Yes, they returned all the Infinity Stones, but Captain America stays in the past with Peggy. That should cause a branching timeline. Loki escapes after the battle in New York after the first Avengers, that is going to create a branching timeline. Really, this opens up the door for Captain America, even though he’s old at the end of the movie to make a cameo as needed and the same with Tony Stark. It also means that Loki can get his Disney+ streaming show.

Let’s also talk about Thanos. Thanos is such a good villain. We got to see them double down on it in this movie by having him try to take a more extreme approach since the first time it didn’t stick. However, with that you see his patience in planning. Thanos just works so well, because you believe that he knows what he is doing is wrong, but he believes it’s the only way. It’s interesting to have a bad guy who is knows they are the bad guy, but thinks what they are doing is right in the long run. My favorite moment for him was after his bombed the Avengers headquarters, him just sitting there and waiting for Nebula to get him the Infinity Stones. He could have rushed in there and smashed everything and taken down people at their weakest while they were disoriented, but that isn’t who Thanos is. He’s calculating, he believes in what he is doing, and he is patient, because as he puts it, “I’m inevitable.”

I also want to give myself a little bit of a pat on the back. In Infinity War, Doctor Strange makes a deal for Tony Stark’s life. That is because Thanos would have killed everyone on Titan who was fighting him, out of spite, had Doctor Strange not done that. Without Tony being around, they wouldn’t have been able to nail down time travel like they did. Them talking about whether or not it was the one early on in the large battle was great as well. Doctor Strange saying that he couldn’t tell Tony because if he knew it would change what he did is great, also tips off that it is the one, but not completely. I feel like Strange would have said that either way, so that Tony still would have had hope. But the moment where Strange raises one finger to Tony and Tony goes for it later in the battle, just letting Tony Stark know at the right time is great. Got chills thinking about it.

I was so surprised that it was Tony who died. Robert Downey Jr. seemed to be having fun with the character, so that I thought that there was a solid chance they’d keep him around for cameos later on. But with how they had Tony Stark die, and Pepper Pott’s line that he could finally rest, that was just beautiful. We got to have the Peter Parker moment with Tony, but then Pott’s really giving Tony the sendoff that he deserved. He’s been trying so hard to save everyone, and he finally did it. I had thought it would be Captain America, another character who had been given somewhat of an arc, but didn’t seem to have much more for him to do. Also, Cap is just such a candidate for a heroic death from how they created his personality. I think his actual end, spending away his days with Peggy was fitting. Oh, and if you are wondering, when we see old Cap, he’s probably 110 or so, and looking like he’s 80, so yes, he ages slower which makes sense for his super soldierness.

Let’s now talk a little bit about fat Thor. This was somewhat controversial to have Thor fat on several online sources claiming it was fatphobia/fat shaming. I don’t have an issue with it for several reasons that I’ll lay out here. First, and most importantly, Thor isn’t weaker because he’s fat. Thor is able to fight just as well as when he was strong when he is fat. Endgame is telling you, even if you are larger, you are still a strong person who can do important things. Next, Thor has gone through so much. Yes, Chris Hemsworth can pull off that comedy of being The Big Lebowski, but consider everything Thor has gone through. He lost so many Asgardians in Thor Ragnorak. It wasn’t just the snap, there were thousands who died in Ragnorak. There were many more who died in Thanos attack on the ship to get the Infinity Stone, then there is the snap that takes out even more, and more people who he knows. Thor has lost more than anyone else, and he’s the God of Thunder and believes he should have been able to stop Thanos. My only issue with it is that I had a very obnoxious movie goer behind me whom every time Thor was going to show up on the screen, wondered out loud if Thor was still going to be fat and then laughed when he was, thinking that the fatness was a joke. So it isn’t how Marvel handled it that was an issue, it was an issue, however, for that fan themselves. Marvel handled it tastefully, and how a person handles it, we can’t control that.

There are a lot more things to talk about, but I am going to leave them some for the future articles. This movie was such a home run for me, and clearly I have even more to say on it. Feel free to post spoilers in comments, questions, issues, what you loved, this is the spoiler post.

Let’s roll with some more heroes.

Doctor Strange: A brilliant and proud doctor gets in a car crash and becomes Sorcerer Supreme. But it’s not quite that simple, first he has to become a broken man, no longer able to do surgery because of shaking in his hands, he eventually gets pulled into becoming the new Sorcerer Supreme. Doctor Strange is one of those secondary characters that hangs out in the comics with the Illuminati along with Professor X and Tony Stark also other members and also hanging out with the Avengers. He does have his one big bad guy whom he fights. Dormammu is an extra-dimensional being whom Doctor Strange comes up against and who generally wants to take over whatever dimension he is currently in.

Ant-Man: This is one of those characters that is slightly confusing since there are a couple different versions. There is Hank Pym the brilliant scientist who helps the Avengers with problems that require scientific work and has helped contain the Hulk and many bad guys. And then there is Scott Lang, a criminal who often uses the ant-man suit for many more undercover things. Ant-Man currently is Scott Lang (or was as of six months ago) and the stories often with Lang focus around his redemption. He generally is pushing himself to become better, faster, stronger, and to help people after he has previously hurt people and spent time in jail. Again, people will probably recognize them as part of the ensemble in the Avengers.

Hawkeye: Hawkeye most people will recognize the character from the Avengers movies. Hawkeye in the comics is still just a human and still just shoots arrows. He also has a great comic book series where it was about Clint Barton as a normal human and not trying to jump into the crazy world of massive world ending events. In the comics he doesn’t actually have a family like we saw in Age of Ultron, but instead of interested in the Mockingbird, but that relationship becomes strained and changes over time.

Black Widow: Another one of those Avengers movies characters that people will know. But Black Widow has a very interesting history. She was a creation of the USSR, and there are a lot of issues because of that and her world is about killing and being part of the normal world it odd for her. She has love stories that touch on Daredevil and Hawkeye, but she is too transient to really stay in one place for too long. Again she mainly plays as a secondary character in Avengers, but has had some of her own stories as well but does much of the black-ops for the Marvel universe because there isn’t anyone else who can really do what she does.

Daredevil: As a boy he is blinded when a vehicle crashes as he is saving a person from the vehicle. However, radioactive material splashes on him, and he loses his sight but it gives him powers as well, basically a radar sense. Growing up in Hell’s Kitchen, after he is blinded, his father is killed when he refuses to throw a fight, by the mob. Daredevil, Matt Murdock, then takes it upon himself to clean up the Hell’s Kitchen area of New York, but he regularly has to take care of corruption and mob influence that takes over. Daredevil has a couple of villains in particular who he deals with, the biggest is The Kingpin. The Kingpin is a giant strong man who runs the mob in the area and other mobsters are scared of him, and Bullseye, who is kind of crazy.

Black Panther: From Wakanda, he was the prince in the land, and was forced to take over as a king when his father is killed. Wakanda is known for being secretive and for having amazingly strong and hard metal that they try to keep it from the rest of the world, what people don’t know about this African nation is that it is very advanced technologically. Black Panther is their countries legendary fighter who protects their people. But as the world is advancing, Wakanda can’t keep themselves nearly as separate from the rest of the world, and as more people try to get their resources, the Black Panther has to come out and work the the Avengers. He generally works on the fringes and he has very specific standards that he holds himself to.
