It didn't work out too well, but join me for Splitter and 18 Holes Course Architect.

Last night it was time to test out a new camera. I’ll give you a warning, the test is not great. The new camera is not one that is going to be ideal for me, but that is why I tested it out. But that means that some elements of the stream are a bit out of focus. I talk through all that I am doing and you can generally tell, but let’s just say, it won’t be used on Wednesday. But I did get two games to the table, 18 Holes Course Architect and Splitter.

The Games – 18 Holes Course Architect and Splitter

Splitter

Let’s quickly talk about Splitter since I’ve played that one before. You can see with my other stream where I was running into other technological issues that this game just doesn’t like to get played.

My issue with the game, the amount of luck, is definitely still a factor. I think even 3-4 times where you are allowed to adjust a number by 1, up or down, would make the game better. Mainly because if you can’t complete something like a group of sixes, it’s because you rolled poorly, not because of poor strategy.

18 Holes Course Architect

18 Hole Course Architect also has some of the same issues where there can just be a lot of luck in the game. You play with one card that you can swap out a single die roll in the game. However, the rules for placement are much looser so you get to make more meaningful.

In 18 Hole Course Architect you are building out a golf course. There are certain spots that are blocked off, the more the more points for you. And then you are trying to complete as many holes connected together as you can. As well as get them to their desired par to score points. You really don’t play the course, which I think you do in the other 18 Holes game.

First impressions with two plays. I think it’s a solid roll and write game. There is a bit more going on and a bit more luck to it. But if you can plan out well you can score well in the game. So there is strategy to what you are doing.

Upcoming Streams

Upcoming on Wednesday it is going to be more Lands of Galzyr. Bumir will be off adventuring across the lands, completing quests and hopefully doing well. Join me at 8 PM Central for that game play over on Malts and Meeples.

Then next Monday, it is likely going to be back to the previous camera set-up but I’m considering different cameras for streaming. So Might have a new one ready to test out. If you have advice, let me know. But one of the games I’m looking at playing is Welcome to the Moon.

Check it out over on Malts and Meeples YouTube.

Last night, first stream of the new year, and things went poorly for it. But I did get in 3 games of Splitter, which you can see most of them. Mainly, a part of the system stopped working consistently, so I’m replacing it. So that messed up how this simple roll and write is shown off. And it’ll alter streaming plans for the week, more on that later.

The Game – Splitter

So, this is a roll and write game that came onto my radar I want to say a few months ago. It wasn’t until December that I actually saw it available. Though, it might have been available prior to then, it wasn’t one that I sought out.

Splitter is a pretty basic roll and write, roll two dice and place those numbers. The twist on it comes with how you place them. When you place one on one half of the board, you need to put the other mirrored to it. So one number is always on one side, the other always on the other.

All while you are trying to create sets of numbers, a lone one, or two twos, up to six sixes. All giving you that same number of points. So one for a one, etc. At the end of the game, you add up all the points for sets you complete. And there are star spaces, any set completed on them is worth double points.

The downside to the game is it is random. There is no mitigation on the numbers rolled. So, in the last game, I talk about, I don’t think you could see, rolling a five when I didn’t want to. A group of fives that I play now because of a roll is a group of six fives. That scores no points.

That is a downside I think of the game. Especially when playing solo. I want certain numbers to come up. But there isn’t tension in it, it is a die roll. With more players, I think it might work better. Every late game roll, or more, will carry weight for being great or horrible for players. So I believe there will be more excitement at the table.

Upcoming Streams

So, change to streaming, not to the schedule. The plan for Wednesday is not going to be Lands of Galzyr. That isn’t because it won’t be coming. I plan on starting Lands of Galzyr next week. But wit the equipment on the fritz, the new piece won’t be here in time. So my plan is to play Slay the Spire, or maybe demonstrate some Gloomhaven via Steam.

Monday is going to be another chill stream like this one was. I will have the new equipment by then, so it is going to be testing that out. I hope that it goes smoothly, but I’ll get it figured out. And my plan is another game to play solo. I don’t know which it is going to be yet.
