As March Madness has just wrapped up we’re doing something different. This week we’re taking all of the MCU movies and shows, minus the Netflix shows which have just been wrapped into cannon, and putting them up against each other. We didn’t want to just pick our favorite Marvel shows or movies, instead, we went with a specific criteria. Which show or movies uses the main character or characters best to drive the plot forward, have character development throughout, and show off some cool powers?

To go along with that we also have a bunch of news from Julia Garner’s casting in the Fantastic Four and other Fantastic Four rumors. Plus casting news for Daredevil: Born Again and more. And we even cover, quickly, X-Men 97 episode 4. So join us on this weeks episode.

Here’s the bracket.

Comments or Questions: Who Wins the Marvel Bracket?

We got it down to two, who wins the bracket? Does Loki win with the character arc that he develops from a god of mischief the god of stories? Or does Thor Ragnorak win as Thor has to lose his home in order to save his people?

There is a ton to talk about this week with Moon Knight Episode 3 coming out and basically confirming a third personality. Is it going to be Jake Lockley, most likely. Plus what is going to be happening with Khonshu now that he’s been trapped in stone? And then in the news, there is a Thor Love and Thunder teaser trailer to talk about. I think it’s interesting to see how little the teaser shows us, but also how it continues to progress Thor’s story and journey.

The post 2022 Anticipated Movies first appeared on Nerdologists.]]>
Yesterday I talked about my most anticipated Television shows/series that were coming out. You can see that here. Today we’re going to talk about movies. And for me, I have the same issue I have with television shows. Marvel comes out with a lot of movies. I see all of those movies, generally in theaters, so I could just do a list of Marvel movies, but I’m going to find more that I’m excited for as well.

Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness
Thor: Love and Thunder
Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Like I said, I could have just done this with Marvel movies, and we have a lot of them that I’m really excited for and curious about. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness being a horror style movie in the MCU is going to be great. Thor: Love and Thunder seems to match-up with the style of Thor: Ragnarok and seeing Jane Foster as Lady Thor will be fun. Quantumania is going to give us more Kang. And Wakanda Forever is going to have some big questions to answer about a new Black Panther.

Wakanda Forever Movie Poster

Uncharted

This one I don’t have that high hopes for, but I’m curious about it. Tom Holland as Nathan Drake is an interesting choice, and the trailer looks perfectly okay. It’s a video game adaptation which means I’m always going to have low expectations for it, but while I certainly won’t be seeing this one in theaters, when I can rent it, I probably am going to watch it.

Sonic The Hedgehog 2

Besides the really bad first trailer and weird look for Sonic, the first movie is actually really fun. I like Sonic as a character and they did a good job of creating an interesting enough story and the action is a lot of fun. So another Sonic movie, I hope that this one can keep the same magic as the first one. Again, doubt I’ll see it in theaters, but it’s definitely one I can see actually picking up a Blu-Ray/DVD of it to go along with owning the other one.

John Wick Poster

John Wick: Chapter 4

Now for a movie that I likely will see in theaters. I didn’t see the first two in theaters but did see the third. The John Wick films are great. The Gunkata (I believe that’s the term) is amazing, and the story is really entertaining. It’s a world of hitmen and honor in how the hitmen do things. So it’s a world with cool rules to it and depth to what is happening. You don’t expect that for a film that is all about action.

And the action. I could talk about the action for a long time. The fights are as much pieces of art as they are bloody/violent fights. Everything just flows so well the set pieces where the action takes place are really good. Each movie has some action that really stands out in it, but even the small fights are extremely well done.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One)

Finally, this isn’t a Marvel movie, but a Sony animated Spider-Verse film. I’m excited for it, because even though I didn’t see Into the Spider-Verse in theaters, when I did watch it, I really loved it. The style is just amazing on the film and this one is going to continue with more of that and grow that animated work that Sony is creating. And while I’m sure that Sony is hoping to add Miles Morales into the MCU somehow at some point in time, the stuff they have done on the animated front is amazing.

That’s it for movies for me. I am guessing that other people will think of movies that I’ve missed or have more they want to see. There is a Super Mario movie coming out and Chip ‘n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers. I might check those out at some point in time, but I’m not anticipating them.

What movies are you looking forward to in 2022?

Avengers: Infinity War

But, but, but, but this is new, it isn’t an old movie, this is a brand new movie. Well, we can still review them, and with something as nerdy as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we clearly need to do a review on it. This is going to be the spoiler free review, I’ll likely do one later that has a number more spoilers, thoughts, guesses, etc. for the future.

This is what Marvel has been building towards for 10 years, basically since Iron Man came out and we got the idea that we would eventually have an Avengers team. In the first Avengers movie we saw Loki wield the power of one of the Infinity Gems as he tried to conquer Earth. Since then we’ve run across some in The Guardians of the Galaxy, Age of Ultron,  and Thor: The Dark World. And we’ve had little bits and teases of the villain for this movie, Thanos, as he seeks to gain power. We’ve met his children Gamora and Nebula and seen him interact with Loki. Finally, Thanos is putting his plan into place to collect all of the Infinity Gems. Unfortunately, that means that he is coming to Earth to get the gem that Doctor Strange has and that is embedded in Visions head.

That’s it that I’m going to say about the plot. There is so much more going in the movie, but I don’t want to give away what else is happening and the storylines that are intertwined together. The story in Infinity War is extremely well written. When sitting through a two and a half hour movie, the time seems to fly by. You get great returns of characters, you get awesome moments of combat, you have heartfelt reunions, and humor all worked together into the perfect blend. This movie feels like what we’ve been building to for ages through all of the other stories, and while you could watch this without having seen any of the movies before and probably still enjoy it quite well, you are going to really appreciate it if you’ve seen the previous films.

There are two huge things that make this story work:

  1. The villain is amazing. Thanos is scary. Thanos is evil. The main characters can’t easily beat him or get the upper hand on him. Thanos even probably knows he is evil, but he so firmly believes that what he is doing is for the right reason it makes him even scarier. He is how a villain should be written with clearly defined motives besides wanting to be a villain. Thanos has those in spades,  and if you go back to the article I wrote about good villains, even with his almost god-like powers, he is more than just a powerful villain to be beaten like Ares is in Wonder Woman.
  2. It brings so many things together. If you want to see heroes team up who haven’t ever teamed up before? You’re probably going to get it. You want to see storylines that have been hinted at and teased in post credit scenes actually happen? You get those. It’s a masterfully written story that brings so many things together you really feel like every movie, even duds like Thor: The Dark World, were worth it because of this story.

Another really cool thing about this film is that you start to see some of the characters really develop into their own. This is the second time we’ve seen Doctor Strange outside of his own movie. In Thor: Ragnarok, it was a brief cameo, but we get to see Doctor Strange really interact with other characters from the MCU and we get to see him develop even more so as a character. In Spider-Man: Homecoming, we get a good idea of who Peter Parker is, but this also really lets him shine and you see him as something different than before and you see him grow through the film. As was hinted at in Captain America: Civil War, we get to see Scarlet Witch and Visions relationship grow and how it’s already grown, and as Black Panther hinted, we have the return of Bucky. These are just some of the storylines and characters that come together and really grow and take on a solid life of their own.

Avengers: Infinity War is not just a superhero film, it is that and it has it’s superhero moments, it is a story that has a ton of depth. It is a comedy at times, it is a tragedy, it is a drama. It has everything rolled into a single story and it is beautiful. It’s a story that is so well put together that you don’t even notice time passing, and it’s a story that leaves you excited and waiting for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to see what is going to be happening.

It’s a film that I’m going to highly recommend. It’s likely going to demolish box office numbers, and so I really don’t need to tell you to go see it. I will say, if you’re thinking about waiting until it comes out on Blu-Ray and Redboxing it, you can, but I do think that you’ll lose something. I already know I want to go back to the theaters and see it again, and I’ve heard that it is wonderful in 3D. Consider splurging and going to see it if you weren’t planning on going already, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. I will say this, as there are plenty of times movies are over-hyped and don’t live up to expectations, if nothing else, Avengers: Infinity War is a stellar superhero movie and can be enjoyed as such.

As previously teased by Marvel’s Kevin Feige, Thor: Ragnarok is going to be more humorous than the previous Thor films, which are often regarded as the lesser products of the MCU. While speaking with The Wrap about his new film, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Waititi confirmed that Thor: Ragnarok will be funnier while taking a slight dig at The Dark World.

Will be interesting to see how that will happen. The director, Taika Waititi, does appear to have the chops for that with his previous work on Flight of the Concords. I enjoyed the first two Thor movies, and I’m excited for the next Thor film.
