Sleeping Gods Game Play Part 1
Happy 2022, we start with a small hiccup with Sleeping Gods, where the audio wasn’t working, but that got fixed immediately. So last night, and every night for a few weeks at least, at 8 PM Central time on Malts and Meeples YouTube channel we are playing through Sleeping Gods by Red Raven games. How will the crew of the Manticore fare for me as I lead them on an adventure?
The Game – Sleeping Gods
Sleeping Gods is an adventure game from Red Raven games. Where, like I said, you play as the crew of the Manticore, a ship that has been transported to a new world to wake-up the slumbering gods of that world. If you ever want to return to the real world, you need to complete this, though, many have tried, and none have succeeded.
You play the game by taking ship actions, dealing with events, and traveling around, and exploring the world that Ryan Laukat and his wife. In this first part of the playthrough, we went through the opening scenario that teaches you the game. That took up most of the time and then we branched out and started exploring on our own.
Sleeping Gods is really an open world game. You can go anywhere and do anything. Though, you do want to stick around the starting area for at least a little bit. Because as you venture further out into this book, and it is a book with a lot of maps in it, you’re going to find more difficult challenges.
Combat is different in this game, as well. You attack and cover up areas. Not totally a unique concept. But if you fight multiple monsters, you can target one monster and spread the damage to others. It is as if you are cleaving through both monsters. And you need to cover specific spots to prevent retaliatory damage. Plus then other spots which are the health so you can kill off the monster. It is a good combat puzzle.
The Drink
Last nights drink was a simple one, just a gin and tonic. But not the way you would normally make it. Instead of just gin and tonic water, I used tonic syrup. To make a gin and tonic with tonic syrup, you mix it with gin and then add in club soda. I feel that it the flavor is a little bit better than a lot of the tonic waters that are out there. And you end up with more control over how much of the tonic flavor is in the drink. The downside is that it does add in an extra step to what you are doing because it’s not just gin and tonic water.
Upcoming Streams
So let’s talk about the schedule coming here into 2022. Obviously the first stream is Sleeping Gods. I do not know how long that is going to take. I suspect that it’ll take us through the end of February, maybe. The game says it is 1 to 20 hours. I played slowly for an hour and a half last night. I am hoping I can go faster in the future, but also probably only stream for an hour.
Along with the gaming, I also want to look at putting out more content. However, I do not yet know what that is going to look like. I really like BoardGameCo’s unboxing and ramblings, so that might happen when I get in a Kickstarter game. And I should be doing that fairly often coming up.
I also, and I wasn’t sure on this, but I believe I will be dipping my toes into the realm of more reviews. This might be a change to the format of my 3 Reasons To Buy or Not To Buy for a game. Do a review in the first part of it and then talk about three reasons why a game might not work for you and three reasons why it might. So similar to what it is now, just while giving more of an overview and more of my thoughts. Let me know if you want to see something in that format? I’ll probably try and do a review soon for the channel.
Also, let me know what content you might want to see. Do you like the live content, would you like to see more recorded content added to the channel? My plan is short and sweet content, but let me know what type you’d want.
Thanks For Watching Sleeping Gods
