Awaken Realms Now Recap – 4 New Projects

I forgot to write about this yesterday, but Awaken Realms on Tuesday had their, these are our upcoming crowdfunding projects. All the links will be down below. But, because it is Awaken Realms, I am always interested in what they are going to be doing. And after watching the video and looking at the pages, there are some I am interested in, and others, well, not so much. But I want to see what they are all about. So let’s look at the projects and see which ones I want.

Upcoming Awaken Realms Crowdfunding

AR Vault: Story Dice

Story Dice are the first one. And these are interesting looking dice, though how functional they are, I am less than convinced. Basically, these are dice based off of stuff that Awaken Realms has done before. But let’s take a step back, what is AR Vault?

AR Vault is going to be Awaken Realms line of premium gaming components or accessories. Think about how Roxley has Iron Clays or other games have upgraded meeples, Flamecraft you can get fancy dragons for. Well, AR Vaults is going to be that, and Awaken Realms is starting with dice.

So does this one interest me? Not really. The dice look like they would be fun for a painter who has Awaken Realms games, enjoys them, and wants more stuff to paint. To me this is a very very easy pass. Not that they don’t look cool. But for me, it is not a useful add-on to a game.

STALKER: The Board Game

Next up is what I maybe should save for last. But I am putting them in the same order as the video. STALKER is a first person shooter video game from Ukraine where players are in the “zone”. And it is this weird land that seems like monsters, and well, a cool dark setting.

This is not a first person shooter board game. And it is not as much of a campaign game, it feels like as some of theirs. More that you are playing through scenarios and crawling through zones to experience the world in STALKER. Of course that means fighting monsters, but you might start out as stealth and then at some point in time the switch flips and it is time for combat.

As for me, this one is interesting. The information is pretty limited on it, and not being familiar with the source material, I do not feel too strongly either way. So it is a game that I want to see what is coming. I will look at the Gamefound campaign when it is live. But I suspect, not because it won’t be an interesting game, it won’t be one that I back.

Dragon Eclipse

Dragon Eclipse is a true solo or two player game from Awaken Realms. Often times their games are better at lower player counts, or work that way. Tainted Grail I like at three, but four is a lot for it. It adds in a lot more downtime. ISS Vanguard, I can imagine that each person controlling two characters might be the way to go. And, of course, I do have Malts and Meeples, so a solo game is interesting.

Dragon Eclipse is when two moons line up, a portal to a demon realm opens up. And you travel around that world, collecting spirits to fight for you, or dragons, or possibly demons? It might all depend on which direction you go. But then you take those and pit them against the game. If this sounds familiar, it should, it reminds me of Pokemon. Or, Robomon which is a game from Gamefound not too long ago.

This one I am super interested in. Yes, it has solo, and it is Awaken Realms. To me, this might be one of their games that works well to stream. It doesn’t sound as big, and with that low player count, it isn’t one that I might want to play with a group. So I am very interested in this one, and unless I’m surprised, I’ll be backing it.

Nemesis Retaliation

Finally the biggest announcement. STALKER might be up there with it, but more Nemesis. Now, I need to play mine that I own, and get those space cats into a game. Probably won’t use them, but I do need to play my copy.

If you aren’t familiar with Nemesis, it is basically Alien(s) the board game. You and others are on a spaceship headed towards Earth. You want to end up there, but there are aliens on the ship. And you can’t bring those back to Earth. So you need to defeat them. And you need to complete your own objective as well.

I want to back this one, but I likely won’t. Why, because I need to play my original game first. If I play it and I love it, then I might back it. And I think that Retaliation will end up on Gamefound probably in November. So I might play it before then. But even then, this is a big game, do I need another version? Even though, in Retaliation you seek out the aliens so you are prepared versus the others where the aliens are a surprise to your unprepared crew.

Which One Are You Looking Forward To?

Let me know which one or ones interest you the most? Do you have more connection to STALKER than I do, so it sounds more interesting? Or are you excited to get some new and weird dice to add to your collection? Let me know in the comment section below.

For me, it is definitely Dragon Eclipse that I am most interested in. That solo focus of the game is something that I really appreciate. Plus, I like the sounds of that setting as well. But Nemesis is for sure going to tempted me, and who knows with STALKER The Board Game.
