Wilds of Eldraine Pack Opening
Magic the Gathering is putting out some interesting sets. The Wilds of Eldraine is one that caught my attention. It is part of the main Magic the Gathering line, unlike Universes Beyond Lord of the Rings. But this one leans into a fairy tale setting, which is a setting that I really enjoying. That mythical land of fey, faeries, and large amounts of candy that will certainly mean your demise.
What Stood Out in the Wilds of Eldraine?
There are a few things that stood out to me in this set. Firstly, I think you can make a cheap faerie deck from this. Is it going to be the best deck from here, definitely not. But the Wilds of Eldraine set gives you a lot of faeries to play around with. And they look like they combine with adventuring. I might build a deck around that just for fun.
I also noticed that this set is lacking in good dual lands. There are dual lands that allow you to turn them into creatures. Okay, that is fine. But it is then ruined from playability by making them come in tapped. In Magic the Gathering, I want land early and often. Not too much, but enough that I consistently build to where I need to be to play the deck. A land that comes in tapped puts you behind by a turn as you play so there is much less value to them.
Finally, in the Wilds of Eldraine, I noticed a few different artwork types which I liked. And I think they did a good job of splitting them up. There is the main set art, that is classic Magic the Gathering. Then there is the full art, extended art, borderless, whichever it is, that has this fairy tale children’s book, minimal fine detail artwork that is amazing. And finally, there is the showcase artwork. That artwork is probably the least interesting and also from the main cards, but the style is just tweaked, again leaning into that fairy tale artwork.
Upcoming Streams
On Wednesday at 8 PM Central time, I play The Isofarian Guard. We’re getting closer towards the end of my playthrough of that. Normally I play 10 sessions. But I want to do my Top 100 on Wednesday’s this year. And I want to get it done prior to Christmas holiday season. So probably I will start to do my Top 100 at the start of October. But up until then, more of The Isofarian Guard.
And then on Monday at 9:00 PM Central time I stream as well. So join me then, it most of the time won’t be opening packs like with this week. So expect that I will play a small solo game for next week. Not sure what game it will be, yet, but I need to learn and play some more of my solo games. Cursed!? is an option that I might go with, play a number of games and chat around the game play.
But the best way, if you want to know when I go live or a new video goes up (it’s basically always live), please consider subscribing. You can do that here. And click that notification bell on the channel and you’ll always know when I go live.
