Malts and Meeples: Railroad Ink Challenge

Last night pulled another game off of my shelf for the first time as I played through Railroad Ink Challenge. This is a fun roll and write from Horrible Guild. I’ve played the original game previously and had a blast with it. Then Horrible Guild put out and app for Railroad Ink Challenge and I knew that I wanted to pick up the physical version of the game after playing that a few times.

The Game

So, Railroad Ink, I’ve written about it a lot.

Spoiler for the last one, I didn’t back it and now I really wish that I had. Because Railroad Ink is a really fun game. It’s a bit more challenging than some roll and write games. The spatial puzzle aspect of the game has some going on with it as you try and connect things. And it has less (no) mitigation, which some roll and writes or flip and writes do now. Or at least very little mitigation which is basically in the form of extra dice you can use.

Challenges builds on that by adding, well, challenges. These challenges give you goals that you want to complete by certain points in time in the game. So turns 3, 4, and 5 each have goals that need to be completed. If you complete them on their round or sooner, it’s four points for each. The later it is, the fewer points you get. It gives you a good direction to go in the game when you aren’t sure when to place a die. Play it somewhere that it helps with the goals.

The Beer

We were going back up to my home town of Fergus Falls, MN and Outstate Brewing with Bucket Pale Ale. It is a decent pale ale, unfortunately, it’s too malty or the malts are clean enough in flavor for the type of beer that it is. I want to like it more than I do, but I also don’t want my pale ales to tastes mainly like the malts and less like the hops. I clearly don’t hate it, but I’m not sure next time I’m up in Fergus Falls that I’ll pick Bucket Pale Ale up again.

Upcoming Streams

So, no stream this upcoming Monday. The following Monday, plan is to do some quick reviews and then maybe pick a topic to chat about. I’m thinking I will talk about getting rid of games. I wrote about it recently, but it’s a question that I see a lot of people dealing with. But let me know if you have a topic I should talk about.

And then next Wednesday, I am planning on diving into Aeon’s End Legacy. That gives me a week to learn any new rules, and I’m thinking about running some polls to decide whom to play, so keep an eye out for those.
