OOMM Games Stars of Akarios continued last night with the start of the first act and some interesting decisions that needed to be made. And really some interesting game play that I’ll be talking about after the video so you can avoid spoilers. But it did something in a game that I haven’t really seen before, maybe not for the better, but not as a bad thing either.

The Game – Stars of Akarios

Let’s talk about how this scenario went because, well, it was interesting. If you haven’t watched and just want to find out what as interesting, basic idea is that I had three options, side with a faction (two of the options) or remain neutral. I chose to remain neutral.

In game what that means is that either enemies would attack me, and my goal is just survive. But they also attack each other. Makes sense, they are enemy factions. So I went into combat guns blazing and realized, once the ships were grouped together, it was smart for me to go hide in a corner. I went and hid in a corner. And then I hid some more.

This is a scenario where the best way to win, if picking the pacifist option, is to hide in a corner. And it worked, not only as a strategy but also for the scenario. I think for some people it might not, it feels like the game is playing itself, it kind of was, but as a decision to make it worked. Now, I do not want to do that every time. And I like the space combat so I want to fight. But in terms of a strategy this time, it worked.

The odd thing is that it feels like it shouldn’t work. It feels like it’d make the game too boring. Now, that is why it’s important that it doesn’t happen often. Actually, probably ever again in Stars of Akarios. I don’t want to find scenarios where there are two sides of enemies and I can remain neutral. But it created a unique experience and a unique and memorable moment for me.

Upcoming Streams

So I do want to continue, I want to get through at least this opening to Stars of Akarios Act 1. Mainly I want to do a bit more on planet and a bit more space exploration. The prologue gives you some idea about that, but knowing the pile of cards for space exploration and I have no idea what the map situation is going to look like on planet, I want to see them more. Also, I need to so I can review it. That’ll continue next Wednesday.

This past Monday I played Slay the Spire as I ran out of time to learn a new game. I want to stream some roll and write or something on Monday. I do know that Terraforming Mars Ares Expedition has a solo mode, so I might consider that as well. But gaming on Monday as well.
