Tranquility: The Ascent – Game Play

The last two Mondays I’ve been playing Tranquility: The Ascent from Lucky Duck Games. Why two Mondays, well, I messed it up the first time. So checkout that game play and the fixed game play for Tranquility: The Ascent and let me know what you think of it.

Error in game play on the above video.

Corrected game play video of Tranquility: The Ascent.

Tranquility: The Ascent

This is a solid solo game with a big footprint. I think it’s a footprint for a small, simple game that I’d associate more with a bigger game and definitely not with a light solo game. Mainly because it is that table hog for what it is. All at the same time, it doesn’t actually feel big enough, physically as you need to shuffle up cards. And that’s a tricky situation with that for I think anyone, but especially people with large hands.

The game play is easy to learn and play. I think when I saw it at Gen Con, I got most of the rules and understanding there. But it was trickier to keep track of than it needed to be. The game itself is really easy to show it works just by demonstrating a couple of turns. I appreciate that for games because it means that I don’t need to just tell but I can show as well.

For me, I suspect I want to play this game more as a multiplayer game, though probably not with too high a player count. Too many people it would get very lucky. But with solo, the game is good but not great. And for a game that I can sit down and play quickly, I don’t want much set-up, there isn’t there, but there is some. And I want it to be a game where I can play in a small space. Tranquility: The Ascent is not that game.

Streaming Schedule

So just a quick reminder of the streaming schedule:

  • Monday around 8-8:30 PM Central Time a small solo game, that’s the current plan. This is also when I mix in things like Balatro and Slay the Spire as well.
  • Wednesday at 9 PM Central is going to be for my Top 100 Games (of all time) 2024 Edition right now. And I want to get back to campaign games, though TBD how that will be working or the day for sure. Might swap Monday and Wednesday streams when that happens.
  • Friday at 9 PM Central my wife, Kristen, and I play Baldur’s Gate 3. So join us as we play a couple of hours each Friday night and tackle that big adventure.

Best way to know when I go live is just to subscribe and click that notification bell. Which you can do that here.
