Gloomhaven Digital Game Play
I said a week ago or so that my campaign game was going to be Gloomhaven digital. And I was pretty excited for it. I love Gloomhaven. It and the other iterations of it (Frosthaven and Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion) are my favorite games. And now that I’ve gotten into it, and with my time because I’m on the job hunt, I have been playing a lot of it. So here is your chance to catch up on the game and see if Gloomhaven or Gloomhaven digital is a game for you.
Which Characters Did I Start With In Gloomhaven Digital?
So, I decided that to get back into the game, I wanted to start with a couple of what I consider the simpler characters. I don’t think that any of the starting characters are overly complex (you get to some complex ones later) but I wanted good synergy and an ease of play to get back into the game. So which characters did I pick?
The Brute: The Brute is going to be your tank character. He has the ability to be next to another character and draw aggro from that character and take the damage instead. He is also going to have more hit points. It’s not that he can’t hit, but he’s there to more control the area with affects that I’m stacking onto him. He’s got affects like disarm and stun that I’m putting into the modifier deck.
The Scoundrel: To pair with the Brute, I went with the scoundrel. She is a fast character who is about dealing damage by backstabbing people. And when she hits doing that, she can absolutely lay waste to people. Especially if she uses her ability to become invisible and then deal double damage coming out of it. I’m focused on making her as fast as possible and our main damage dealer in the party.
The only issue I’ve run into thus far is keeping the Brute close enough to the Scoundrel. I did need to split the party for one combat and that worked. But for a bigger boss fight, I sent my brute one way to catch up to a target that moves in a loop whereas the Scoundrel could just keep up with the target just fine. It’s fun to see how the different characters play, and this feels like a very balanced party.
Upcoming Streams
Just a reminder on my streaming schedule. It’s not just all my Top 100 Games (of all time).
- Monday night, time varies, is when I am going to keep on playing more of Gloomhaven Digital. But look for other streams to pop-up as well for that. On Monday nights it’ll normally start between 7:45 and 8:15 PM Central time.
- Wednesday at 9 PM central is right now for my Button Shy solo games. I still have a stack of them go go through.
- Friday at 9 PM central my wife and I are streaming a playthrough of Baldur’s Gate 3. Join us for the adventure of Nina and Kaerok and see what choices we make.
The best way to know when we go live, though is to subscribe and click that notification bell. I can’t promise, and in fact it’s pretty unlikely, that I’ll have events to click on ahead of time. Though I do want to get better at it. I hope that you can join a stream and hop into the chat. And let me know what games in this list are your favorite or that you want to try.
