Top 5 Board Games I Want To Play Again

It’s a challenge, one that I put on myself because I own so many, to play board games often. I find that I play a game and then might not play it again for a long time. But I want to keep the game because I like the game. I might even get an expansion for the game. But there just isn’t time sometimes, so which board games do I want to play again. I’m limited myself to only five board games, but there could be a whole lot more for the list.

Top 5 Board Games I Want To Play Again

Now, there is a rule that I have for this. When I talk about these board games, I can’t have played them this year. That is pretty recent for me when it comes to board games. Also these are not games that I haven’t played. If I haven’t played it, well, that’s another list. Also the order doesn’t matter. Finally, I must own the game. Otherwise, how am I going to get it played?

5. Atlantis Rising

I’ve played this game once and I had a ton of fun with it. I love the worker placement and the sinking land. When the game gives you that visual representation of things going poorly, that pressure is just fun. And I like the idea of pushing out further onto these parts of Atlantis. Yes, they give you better things, but what happens if it sinks, you get nothing that round.

Then the game becomes this tension of how you protect the land so it doesn’t sink, but also you need to get resources to complete your goal of saving Atlantis. When board games give you two things like that that you need to do, I think it is so much fun.

4. Project Elite

Project Elite is one that I have a good reason for not getting played. And that is that I didn’t own this game. But when I sell board games I also buy board games. And Project Elite showed up at a board game sale.

This game is just so much fun and so much chaos. I talk about how I don’t like real-time in games. But this game it works. You roll dice, advance enemies as you move and shoot them and try and complete objectives. But then you get a breather as you add more enemies of types. And then you do it again, and you need to take them out, complete your objective and all before they overrun your base.

3. Too Many Bones

When it comes to games, there are board games that I own a lot of and that I need to play my copy of the game more. Too Many Bones is one of the biggest offenders of that. But I want to own it all, and it doesn’t make the game harder to table owning it. But, I will say, that the game is already a little challenging to table.

The issue is that Chip Theory makes great, but complex games. I could have put Burncycle on the list as well as a game that I want to play again. So I need to spend time with Too Many Bones, relearn the rules and give it a go again. All of this, of course, requires more of my time to get it to the table.

2. Mistborn: The Deck Building Game

On the flip side, I could probably sit down and play Mistborn right now. Mistborn is not a hard game to learn or play because it’s mainly just a deck building game. And I know my deck building board games. The mechanisms work, but the reason I haven’t played it is that I like the game solo. But I think it’s better as a two player game.

And honestly, that is a reason for a lot of these board games to be on the list. I like them, but I might not find the specific time that I need to play these games as often as I could because of player count and things like that. I host a board game night once a month. We get 6-10 people. That means that games that I like with fewer or are bigger and longer get played less.

1. StarDriven Gateway

Finally we have StarDriven Gateway. I have played this game once at Gen Con. And then I backed it, like I do so many board games, because I knew that I’d like it and I wanted it for my collection. It is here now, and I haven’t played my copy yet.

StarDriven Gateway is a big game of exploring space, completing missions, blowing up enemies, but not a campaign game. And I like that about it, it could have been a campaign and I’d have backed it. But because it’s not, it means it’s more likely that I can play it again sometime soon. Plus, the mechanism around activating spots and managing your crew is one that I find to be really fun.

I Want To Mention More Board Games

I own so many board games. And while I don’t think that’s a bad thing, they bring me joy, I wish I had more time to play more of them. Because it’s just tricky to get them all played as much as I want. And I move on from some board games because I just haven’t gotten to them recently.

What board games are on your shelf that you haven’t played in a long time and you want to again?
