Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Pack Opening
It’s been a busy week, so I didn’t have time to learn the new campaign game that I’ll be playing. Instead I opened up a booster box of Scarlet and Violet base set from Pokemon. Did we get some good pulls, were there enough pulls to make back my money on it? Probably not, that’s not really how TCG’s work, but how did we do finding those chase cards that everyone wants to get?
Why Open Pokemon Packs?
Well, as I talk about in the description, some of it is in preparations for the upcoming Magic the Gathering set around Lord of the Rings. I like Lord of the Rings a lot, and the cards look really interesting. So I wanted to get some of those and open them up when they come in.
Pack Opening YouTube
But that’s not the only reason. YouTube has led me down a rabbit hole of pack openings. I saw some for sports cards with insanely expensive packs where you could consistently pull cards that were 1 of 10 made or even rarer. But of course there is a large community for Pokemon as well. And PokeRev was the one that I stumbled across and have really liked.
So he got me back into this pack addiction, and I do think there is an addictive element to it. The idea that you open a pack and don’t know what might be in there. It’s the same with Magic the Gathering cards as well as any of these blind buys. You might get something great, or you might not. And I have always liked this idea, not in how the marketing works on it, but on trying to find that one cool thing.
Pack Opening Excitement
For baseball cards it was getting rookie cards and hoping that players would pan out. For Magic the Gathering, it’s getting the mythic rare cards (sometimes) but for sure the dual lands and foil versions of those. And for Pokemon cards it’s the secret rare cards.
It’s also something that I don’t want to get too lost in again. There is a chance I will dive into Pokemon cards or back into Magic the Gathering. But the thing I want to hold myself to is that I’m going to do it as a family. I have a four year old kid. If he wants to start playing and collecting these cards, I will join him in it. Mainly to make sure it isn’t just a collection.
I collected baseball cards, like I said. But that was not where it stopped. I would sort them. I messed around with metrics before metrics were a thing off the back of a baseball card. Trying to see how you could combine the stats to figure out who the best players really were. And now, I might collect baseball cards, but as a kid, I want to make sure he gets good use out of what he buys, versus getting stuff to own something sake.
Have you gone down the TCG pack opening rabbit hole? Or with sports cards?
Upcoming Streams
Next Monday at 8:30 PM Central time it is going to be playing more My City Roll and Build. I’m enjoying it and I want to know what the next things that are added are. It’s not a legacy game, but it feels like the legacy game it is based off of. So join me for that.
And I will make time to learn Isofarian Guard. I need to clean up ISS Vanguard and get Isofarian Guard setup over the weekend so that I can start playing that on Wednesday. I have enough campaign games that I need to get this one and start playing more of them. Join me at 8:00 PM Central on Wednesday for that next campaign game. And on the off chance I don’t have one ready, I’ll be streaming some other board game.
The best way, if you want to know when I go live or a new video goes up (it’s basically always live), please consider subscribing. You can do that here. And click that notification bell on the channel and you’ll always know when I go live.
