The Page

This page has a ton of information on it, in some ways, I wish there was more about Mythwind and how it’s played on it. Yes, we get to see all the components, but it feels like it’s lacking when it comes down to what you are actually doing in the game.

That said, with the components, they do a good job of highlighting what comes in the game. And I think since each character seems to be different in how they play. This shows you what are you going to get, it just it a bit too much in that you need to scroll past a lot before you really get to the game.

The Game

This game seems very interesting in that you don’t really win the game. Instead you just play around with your engine and get that working and experience the world and what it has to offer. It is supposed to be a game in some ways like Stardew Valley or Animal Crossing. Those games give you things you can do and search for and explore, but winning isn’t part of what you do in the game. It’s a weird concept for a video game or a board game, to me.

Clearly with the video games, both Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing are very popular. So, rightfully so, it was only a matter of time before this style of game became a board game. And while I’m not extremely inspired by character classes, farmer, crafter, woodsman, etc. they make sense for the style of game. I like that they tell you what characters will play like in terms of similar games.

And I do like that you do have some goals. It’s again like Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing, or even something as simple as Cookie Clicker, they keep you coming back to get more. They give you enough rewards, enough goals, that you want to come back to the game and get some more.

Back or Brick Mythwind

So is Mythwind a back or a brick for me? I think that right now it’s a Brick. This game seems really fascinating to me. I like the idea of just having a persisting world that builds out and grows as you go. A town that you can determine it’s path. I don’t know what I love the idea of something that is just an achievement/leveling game for progression. If I could have this game set-up all the time, and I will say with the Game Trayz it looks easy to set-up. But I don’t think it’s a game I’d pull off the shelf to set-up that often. Unless I get addicted to it, in which case it’d stay set-up for a month and played a lot.

How about for you, is this a Back or a Brick?
