Metro X – Game Play 3

It was another week of getting a more familiar game to the table. After Mass Transit last week, you can watch here, it is time to take the metro for some more traveling. I play Metro X, a roll and write game that I like a lot. Why is this one that works so well solo? And if you haven’t seen Metro X, is it one, now on the table, that you think would work for you?

Metro X – Solo or Multiplayer

I’ve written about Metro X before. I don’t need to rehash how it is played, but for myself, I want to think about one question. When I play Metro X, it is only solo. Is there a reason that it is only a solo game for me?

When thinking about a solo or multiplayer game there are a few questions to ask. The biggest one, for me, is “Will player do different things”. Because you flip over a card and everyone gets that card, is there an optimal play? If that answer is yes, then the next question to ask is how obvious is it.

With Metro X, I struggle to know if there is an optimal play. I think that the answer is likely yes, but that there is enough randomness in the card flips that you can’t expect subsequent ones. So when you flip the next card the optimal play might be less than optimal. On the flip side, it might still be optimal, you just got bad luck.

And for that reason, I like Metro X solo. I feel like it is solvable for the card flips that we have. I, however, don’t see a perfect solution for it. There is no way to win every time because you need to adapt. But as each card flips, there is probably an ideal adapting to it.

Upcoming Streams

On Wednesday at 8 PM Central the play is to stream The Isofarian Guard. Keep seeing what adventures we get, and hopefully don’t fight the same bad guys. I think that there is more variety than we came across last week that we get to deal with. Join me then and see.

And Monday at 9 PM central is the other time I stream. That is a random game, like Metro X, that gets streamed. I won’t say what game I plan to stream, but I own several like Floriferous, Hadrian’s Wall, Bullet, Welcome to the Moon, Imperium Legends, and more that I want to get to streaming.

But the best way, if you want to know when I go live or a new video goes up (it’s basically always live), please consider subscribing. You can do that here. And click that notification bell on the channel and you’ll always know when I go live.
