Aeon’s End Legacy Game 6

Last nights stream is out there as I tackled Aeon’s End Legacy again. Thus far I’ve really enjoyed the game, with the new mechanic introduced, will it still be interesting to me? And will I be able to keep my winning streak going in the game?

The Game

We continue our playthrough of Aeon’s End Legacy. I have talked about the game a lot at this point. It is a cooperative, legacy, deck building game from Indie Boards and Cards. So today we’re going to talk about if it’s a good legacy game.

I clearly am enjoying the game. I already know that I like Aeon’s End because I like Aeon’s End and Aeon’s End War Eternal, the two versions of the game that came before. That doesn’t, however, automatically make the legacy version of the game good. Especially since I am only looking at the legacy piece.

When looking at a legacy game, I want a few things, evolving mechanics, interesting story, and regular unlocks. I think that two of those things Aeon’s End legacy does well, the third is fine and a hidden fourth is not great.

So the mechanics evolve well throughout the game. If someone was pretty sure that they’d like the game, I’d consider teaching using the legacy game because it brings you along nicely into the full game as you.

It also gives you regular unlocks at the start or end of every game. That’s good, I like that it feels like I’m always getting more. My knock on that, though, is that there are never any surprise unlocks. Pandemic Legacy was good at giving you a few mid game unlocks and while those slow down the game, they are a lot of fun. I wish that Aeon’s End Legacy would do that. I want one big, mid game twist, which I’m pretty sure I won’t get.

And finally, we have the story, the story is just fine. There isn’t that much story really. I’d love to see a little bit more. The legacy deck works well enough to get across story and really Pandemic Legacy has story, but less than you’d think. So this is kind of on par with that. I think that the game could offer a few more story driven choices or just a bit more story. It might be the fact we don’t unlock anything mid game that makes it feel like there is less.

Overall, a solid legacy game, but I’m not sure that it elevates above what the base game already does. The little bits of story are good and I like the unlocks and making my own character, but in terms of a legacy game, I’m not sure it’s my favorite legacy portion of a game. The game play itself might be though.

The Drink

Last nights drink was from Insight Brewing, a brewery very near my place. It was a Raspberry Pineapple Tart Wheat, and I have to say, it was okay at best. I like most of what Insight brews but this one was really lacking on most fronts. The pineapple and raspberry were barely there and while it had a tart initial taste it wasn’t a strong enough lingering flavor. Instead, it was just mainly wheat.

Upcoming Streams

Next two streams will be Monday at 8:30. I’ll do 10 games that I don’t like but you might, or 10 games that aren’t for me. And then at 8 PM on Wednesday I’ll be streaming Game #7 of Aeon’s End Legacy. So join me for those two live. Once I wrap up Aeon’s End Legacy I have a few solo only games to show off.

Be sure to subscribe and click that notification bell for when I go live.
